Millicent Omanga Fired from Top Govt Position

The Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Roselinda Soipan Tuya, has revoked the appointment of Millicent Nyaboke Omanga to the board of directors of Kenya Shipyards Limited.

In a Kenya Gazette dated April 30, 2026, signed by the Cabinet Secretary in her capacity as having powers derived from the State Corporations Act, Tuya removed Omanga from the post effective from April 30, 2026.

Kenya Shipyards Limited, a state corporation falling under the Ministry of Defence, is a key institution involved in the construction, repair and marketing of ships and marine services.

Millicent Omanga’s Cryptic Facebook Post After Kenya Shipyards Board Removal

Following the removal, Millicent Nyaboke Omanga took to her official Facebook page with a jibe, indicating she wasn’t aware of her continued presence in the board of Kenya Shipyards Limited.

“Apparently I’ve just been officially removed from a board I didn’t even know I was still serving on,” she posted.

She added, “Impressive level of coordination … Decisions being made about roles that only exist on paper lol,” including a laughing face emoji.

Public Scrutiny Mounts Over Millicent Oginga’s Ouster from Kenya Shipyards

This follows after a meeting held on January 31, 2026, at the Mombasa shipyard, where the meeting focused on reviewing and evaluating the progress of ongoing shipbuilding and vessel repairing.

The meeting was being undertaken by the shipyard where several holders attended, including the principal secretary for defence and Dr Patriick Mariruo, the commander of the Kenya army.

In attendance Millicent posted a picture of her attending the board meeting.

Several people reacted to these, raising questions about the situation, with some making comments about her recent involvement with the Kenya Shipyard Limited.

User Bedan Kimani commented on her Facebook, “so you have been eating salary behind our back.”

Other users reacted to her comments, stating that it has highlighted the lack of communication and coordination in decision-making about the state corporation’s appointments.

The Kenya Shipyards Limited have not yet issued a valid reason for her removal.
