The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a cautionary notice to motorists using the Thika–Garissa (A3) Road following flooding that has disrupted transport between Bangali and Madogo in Tana River County.
In a statement released on October 29, 2025, the authority said the heavy rains have submerged sections of the highway, particularly around Tula, affecting parts of the road between the 31-kilometer and 37-kilometer marks from Bangali Centre.
According to KeNHA, the flooded sections could experience further water accumulation if the rains persist.
“The road sections which have been flooded may experience increased water levels if the rain continues,” read part of the statement signed by Acting Director General, Eng. Luka Kimeli.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution and patience while traveling along the affected stretch.
The agency warned drivers to wait until the water levels subside before proceeding, emphasizing safety over convenience.
“All road users and motorists are, therefore, advised to exercise patience and caution so as to allow water levels to subside before proceeding with their journey,” KeNHA advised.

The warning comes as parts of eastern Kenya continue to experience heavy rainfall, which has led to flooding and transport disruptions on several key roads.
The Thika–Garissa Road, a vital link connecting Nairobi to the northeastern region, is among the latest to be affected.
KeNHA assured the public that its technical teams are already on site assessing the situation and making efforts to restore normal traffic flow.
The agency also noted that its engineers are monitoring the structural condition of the affected sections to ensure the road remains safe for use once reopened.
“KeNHA staff are on site to help restore traffic passage through the affected road sections once it is safe to do so,” the statement added.

The authority further advised motorists traveling between Nairobi and Garissa to consider alternative routes or delay their travel plans until further updates are issued.
KeNHA reiterated that ensuring the safety of road users remains its top priority, promising to provide timely updates as restoration efforts progress.
The agency also encouraged travelers to remain alert to weather forecasts and official advisories before embarking on long-distance journeys through flood-prone areas.
