Details Emerge on Moments Before Deadly Dreamline Bus Crash on Mombasa-Nairobi Highway

Details have emerged on the moments before a Dreamline bus was involved in a deadly road crash along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The accident occurred in the Mgalaani area between Taru and Mackinnon, with the Dreamline bus reportedly colliding with a truck that had broken down and was parked along the highway.

Following the collision, two people reportedly lost their lives while several others sustained injuries.

The bus involved in the accident was identified as Dreamline bus registration KDY 404L, while the trailer was identified as KBS 609R.

What Led to the Deadly Dreamline Bus Crash at Mackinnon?

According to reports, the truck involved in the crash had broken down and was stationary on the road before the accident.

However, the circumstances surrounding the positioning of the truck reportedly became a factor in the moments leading up to the collision.

Reports indicate that another bus travelling ahead of the Dreamline bus spotted the stationary truck and overtook it at the last moment.

The Dreamline bus, which was travelling behind the other bus, was then left with limited room to manoeuvre before crashing into the truck.

Reports further indicate that the Dreamline bus was speeding and tailgating the other bus before the crash.

“The truck had broken down and was parked on the road. Dreamline was speeding and tailgating another bus. That bus spotted the truck and overtook it at the last moment, leaving Dreamline with nowhere to go but straight into the truck,”

Meanwhile, the crash triggered an urgent rescue operation in an effort to help some passengers who were said to be trapped inside the bus.

One man was reportedly trapped and bleeding at the scene as efforts to rescue those affected continued.

Police Land Cruisers were reportedly used to transport some of the injured passengers to hospital.

Earlier Accident Involving Easy Coach Bus 

The Dreamline crash came a week after another bus accident involving an Easy Coach bus near Nakuru City, adding to recent reports of road crashes involving long-distance passenger buses.

According to reports, the Easy Coach bus, which was travelling to Kakamega, was hit and pushed off the road by a trailer near Nakuru City.

However, no fatalities were reported in the latest incident.

“The rogue trailer driver hit and pushed an Easy Coach bus to Kakamega off the road right outside Nakuru City. There were no fatalities reported,” the reports stated.

The reports further claimed that the trailer driver fled into the bushes after the incident.
