Major Nairobi Roads to Close for 14 Hours on Sunday [FULL LIST]

Major Nairobi roads will be closed for 14 hours on Sunday, September 27, to facilitate the Jubilee Live Free Race across parts of the city.

The restrictions will affect the Southern Bypass, part of Ngong Road at the Lenana Interchange and the Uhuru Gardens/Carnivore stretch, according to a road closure notice issued ahead of the cycling event.

“ROAD CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT. Sunday 27th September | 12am – 2pm,” the notice read.

Jubilee Live Free Race Route

According to the notice, organizers identified the specific roads and sections that will be affected during the event.

“SOUTHERN BYPASS | PART OF NGONG ROAD AT LENANA INTERCHANGE | UHURU GARDENS/CARNIVORE STRETCH,” the notice stated.

Part of Ngong Road at the Lenana Interchange will experience restrictions, with the route map showing a U-turn at the interchange as cyclists follow the Jubilee Live Free Race course.

Motorists using the Uhuru Gardens and Carnivore stretch will also encounter restrictions as participants move along the designated route.

Uhuru Gardens to Host Start and Finish

Uhuru Gardens will serve as the starting and finishing point for the Jubilee Live Free Race, which will feature cyclists competing in different categories.

The main event will cover 77.8 kilometres over two loops.

Black Mamba and paracycling participants will cover 39 kilometres in one loop.

Families and younger cyclists will take part in a shorter category.

“Family Fun Ride, Under 14yrs: 20km turn off at NHC Southern Bypass,” the organisers stated.

Route Features Several U-Turn Points

Besides the Lenana Interchange, the route map identifies the NHC U-Turn and ICD U-Turn as key points along the cycling course.

Different routes will accommodate competitive cyclists, para-cyclists, families and children participating in the Race.

Meanwhile, the Southern Bypass forms part of the designated course, with participants following different sections depending on their race category.

Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead

Motorists planning to use the affected roads on Sunday should make alternative travel arrangements before the restrictions begin.

Since the closure will start at midnight, the affected sections will remain restricted before the cycling activities get underway later in the morning.

Drivers travelling through the Southern Bypass, Ngong Road, Lang’ata, Carnivore and nearby areas should allow extra time for their journeys or consider alternative routes.
