New Twist in Kyalo Mbobu Murder as DCI Arrests Boda Boda Rider Who Allegedly Ferried Shooter

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a boda boda rider suspected of transporting the main suspect in the murder of Nairobi lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead on September 9, 2025.

In a statement dated Thursday September 24, 2026, the DCI stated that the suspect, identified as Nicholas Lemiso Naula, was arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District on Thursday, September 24, following an intelligence-led operation targeting individuals believed to have been involved in the lawyer’s murder.

“Lemiso is the Bodaboda rider who ferried the main suspect Police Constable Julius Cheruiyot to and from the scene,” the DCI stated.

According to the DCI, the arrest followed sustained efforts by detectives to track down individuals suspected of involvement in the killing.

Earlier, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a police officer suspected of being the gunman who killed lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu in Nairobi. The DCI said the arrest follows an intensive investigation into the murder, which happened on September 9, 2025, along Magadi Road.

Police Constable Julius Cheruiyot was identified and arrested over the killing, according to a statement issued by the DCI on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Detectives also recovered a Ceska pistol that had been issued to Cheruiyot at the time of the incident. The DCI said ballistic examination confirmed that the firearm was used in the shooting that killed Mbobu.

“The finding provides a significant forensic breakthrough in the investigation and further strengthens the evidentiary trail being assembled by detectives,” the DCI said.

Mbobu was shot in a targeted attack while driving home from work along Magadi Road, Nairobi. Following the shooting, specialised teams from the Homicide Directorate worked with forensic experts to reconstruct the events surrounding the killing.

Another Police Officer Linked to Investigation

The DCI said detectives have also established that Inspector Kenneth Sang, who is currently at large, allegedly coordinated the operation in liaison with Rose Mbithe who is already in police custody.

According to the DCI, the two are also linked to the murder of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso who was fatally shot on the morning of July 29, 2026, in Upper Hill, Nairobi.

The DCI said investigations into the two cases remain active as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killings.

Cheruiyot Remains in Police Custody Over Kyalo Mbobu Murder

The arrested police officer remains in custody as he undergoes processing pending arraignment in court. The DCI said it would continue pursuing all persons suspected of taking part in Mbobu’s murder, regardless of their position or affiliation.

“The DCI remains committed to pursuing all persons suspected to have participated in the murder, regardless of their position or affiliation, and ensuring that they are brought before the law,” the statement said.

The agency also extended its condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of Mbobu and Dr Mutiso. It said detectives were pursuing additional leads to establish the motive, planning and execution of the murders.
