The Party for Democracy and Development (CHADEMA), Tanzania’s opposition party, has issued a public notice stating that its Vice Chairman, John Heche,  is seriously sick while in police custody.

Heche is being detained at the Mtumba Police Station in Dodoma.

According to the notice dated October 30, 2025, Heche’s condition has worsened while under detention, due to his sickness.

“The Party for Democracy and Development (CHADEMA) informs the public that the Vice Chairman of the Party, Mr. John Heche, is sick while under detention at the Mtumba Police Station in Dodoma,” read part notice.

What Heche is Suffering From

CHADEMA said Heche has not eaten anything for three consecutive days as of October 30th.

The Party said Heche is suffering from severe heart, body pains, high fever, and is unable to get up on his feet

“Today is the third day that Heche has not eaten while suffering from severe heart and body pains, high fever, and is unable to get up,” read part notice.

Party’s Plea to Police Officers

The party has called out the police force to take immediate action and take Heche to the hospital for medical attention.

They added that it is inhumane behavior to leave someone suffering while in custody.

“We call on the Police Force to take immediate and humane steps by taking him to the hospital so that he can receive appropriate medical care,” said CHADEMA.

Additionally, they said the health and life of a person should be taken seriously when the person is in the hands of security and defense agencies.

“A person’s health and life are matters that should be taken very seriously, especially when a person is in the hands of security and defense agencies,” CHADEMA added.
