17 Reportedly Killed in Grisly Crash Involving Matatu and Lorry in Makueni

At least 17 people have reportedly died following a grisly road accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a lorry at Salama along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway in Makueni County.
According to preliminary reports, the matatu, reportedly bearing the name “ASWAP,” was involved in the collision with the lorry. The vehicle is said to have been a private matatu, although authorities are yet to provide full details regarding its ownership and circumstances of the crash.
Seven other victims were reportedly rushed to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital for medical attention. The extent of their injuries was not immediately established as emergency teams responded to the scene.
The circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear, with authorities and emergency responders continuing operations at the scene. Further details, including the identities of those involved and the official death toll, are expected as authorities establish what happened.
