Former IEBC CEO, National Museums Boss Among Officials Facing Graft Cases This Week

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will handle 26 corruption-related cases in courts across Kenya between October 5 and 9, 2026.
The cases include criminal trials, recovery suits involving public funds and land, as well as proceedings seeking to recover property allegedly acquired illegally.
The cases involve former senior government officials, employees of public institutions, companies and private individuals.
IEBC Ballot Paper Procurement Case
Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Humphrey Obanda Oswago and two others will have their case mentioned on October 5.
They are charged with willful failure to comply with applicable procedures and guidelines relating to the procurement of goods.
The allegations relate to bribery involving top officials of the IEBC and its predecessor, the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC), in connection with the purchase of ballot papers for General Elections and some by-elections.
EACC Lists National Museums Salary Fraud Case
Another case scheduled for hearing on October 7 involves Mzalendo Kibunjia, the former Director General of the National Museums of Kenya, and seven others.
They face charges of conspiracy to commit a corruption offence, money laundering, acquisition of proceeds of crime and financial misconduct.
The prosecution alleges that the accused embezzled Ksh441.4 million through fraudulent salary payments to people who were not employed by the institution.
Machakos Funds Case
On October 8, 2026, the Machakos Law Court will deliver a ruling in a case involving Collins Sila, former Chief Officer of Health in Machakos County, and two others.
These three are charged with willful failure to comply with the law relating to the management of public property and unlawful acquisition of public property.
The allegations relate to the alleged misappropriation of Ksh67 million donated by the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Ksh744 Million Unexplained Wealth Case
Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will on October 7 and 8 hear a case involving Benson Muteti Mutinda, former Coast Regional Manager of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), and six others.
The suit seeks to recover Ksh744 million in unexplained wealth from the first defendant. The case is among several matters before the court involving alleged loss or unlawful acquisition of public resources.
Kenya School of Law Payments Under Scrutiny
Amos Kabue Mwangi and 11 others will face a hearing at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court from October 5 to 8.
They face charges of fraudulently making payments from public revenue for goods that were not supplied and unlawfully acquiring public property.
The case involves irregular payments amounting to Ksh201 million that the Kenya School of Law allegedly made to various companies that did not supply the goods or provide the services.
Nairobi County Faces Several Recovery Cases
Several cases this week involve alleged loss of public funds belonging to Nairobi City County. The court will hear a Ksh110 million recovery suit involving Mary Wanjiku, trading as Maymill Enterprises, and six others on October 5.
Another case involving Janta Express Services Limited and four others seeks recovery of Ksh14 million allegedly embezzled from the county. The case will be heard on October 6, 7 and 8.
The commission will also have a mention involving Stephen Gichia, a former employee of Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, on October 5.
Gichia is charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property worth Ksh8.3 million, deceiving a principal and forgery of a KCSE certificate to secure employment.
Former KAFU Employee Faces Fraud Charges
Alexander Kariuki Ndumia, a former employee of Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU), will appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on October 7.
He is charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property worth Ksh6.3 million, uttering a false document, and forgery of a KCSE certificate allegedly used to secure employment.
The case is part of the commission’s efforts to pursue individuals accused of obtaining public employment or resources through fraudulent documents.

Ksh301.9 Million Prison Services Case
Benjamin Obuya Njoga, Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons, and 13 others will have their case mentioned on October 8 at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court. They are charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property and money laundering.
The allegations relate to the fraudulent acquisition of Ksh301.9 million, allegedly paid for goods that were not supplied to the State Department for Correctional Services.
Land Recovery Cases Across the Country
The EACC will also pursue several cases seeking to recover public land allegedly acquired or allocated illegally.
At the Kisii Environment and Land Court on October 5,Charles Gekonde Otara and seven others will face a suit seeking recovery of land parcels Kisii Municipality Block II/112 and 169.
The land was reserved for government housing and was allegedly illegally allocated to the first defendant.
Another case at the Milimani Environment and Land Court involves public land belonging to the Kenya Railways Corporation.
The suit involving Nicholas Mutinda Mutua and others seeks recovery of land registered as LR No. 1/1085/1, originally LR No. 1/210, along Dennis Pritt Road. The matter is scheduled for October 5 and 7.
The EACC will also pursue the recovery of public land in Kitale, Nakuru, Nairobi, Naivasha and Nyeri during the week.

Other Cases Before the Courts
The commission will on October 5 have a mention in a case involving Meshack Aluvaala over a suit seeking recovery of land belonging to Moi Primary School in Nakuru, valued at Ksh70 million.
Another mention on October 7 involves Olerai Investments Limited and others over Nairobi/Block 79/787, a public land parcel valued at Ksh70 million.
Fatuma Mohamed, Julgem Communications Services Limited and others will also have a case mentioned on October 7 over Nairobi Block 79/788, an open space in Buruburu Phase 5 valued at Ksh65 million.
The EACC will further pursue the recovery of Ksh63.7 million allegedly paid to Filtronic International Limited by the County Government of Kiambu through what the commission describes as fraudulent and illegal contracts.
The matter will be mentioned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on October 5.
Cases Involving Employment Fraud and Procurement
Other matters listed by the commission include a Ksh15.2 million recovery suit against Jecinter Adoyo Hezron, who allegedly used forged academic certificates to secure employment at the Commission on Revenue Allocation. The matter will be mentioned on October 5 at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
Monica Njeri Kibui will also face a recovery suit seeking Ksh13.9 million allegedly paid to her while she simultaneously held two public positions. The case will be mentioned at the Nyeri Law Court on October 7.
On the same day, Joseph Kimemia Thuita and three others will have a case mentioned at the Nyeri Law Court over an alleged irregular Ksh13.5 million tender awarded by the Nyandarua County Government to Catapult Brand Consulting Limited for county branding services.
The EACC will also have a mention on October 8 involving Antony Kyalo Kilele, former Director General of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, and another person.
They face charges of wilfully failing to comply with the law governing the procurement of public services.
The allegations involve the fraudulent award of a storage contract and the authorisation of payments to B.M. Logistics (EA) Ltd, which the case describes as a non-existent company.
