Tharaka Nithi Governor and Council of Governors Vice Chairperson Muthomi Njuki has urged residents of the Luo Nyanza region to support Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as President William Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 General Election, mentioning his performance in government.
Speaking in Migori County during a boda boda empowerment event attended by host Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Njuki said Kindiki’s role as Ruto’s principal assistant had demonstrated his leadership capabilities and could help the President deliver on his promises.
Njuki argued that the Luo Nyanza and Mt. Kenya regions had maintained a working relationship over the years and called for continued cooperation ahead of the next general election.
He said Kindiki enjoyed considerable support in his home region and described his leadership qualities as admirable, adding that his selection as Ruto’s running mate would strengthen the administration’s efforts to implement its agenda.
Ruto’s Bid For Second Term
The governor also called for support for Ruto’s bid for a second term, arguing that the country stood to gain from continuity in leadership based on the administration’s first-term performance.
On the other hand, Ayacko endorsed Kindiki’s suitability for the position, recalling their time in the Senate during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

Ayacko apologised on behalf of members of his community who participated in the removal of Kindiki as Senate Majority Leader during the Kenyatta administration, saying the decision was one he now regretted.
The Migori governor also criticised Kenyatta’s handling of the 2022 presidential election, blaming the former President for Raila Odinga’s defeat by Ruto.
Uhuru’s Tenure
According to Ayacko, Kenyatta lacked a concrete strategy to defeat the opposition, which was then led by Ruto.
He claimed that the former President had failed to honour his end of the political bargain, alleging that his approach largely focused on spending money and mobilising voter turnout.
Ayacko further cautioned politicians seeking Kenyatta’s backing ahead of the 2027 General Election, warning that they risked being let down in a manner similar to what he alleged happened to Odinga in 2022.

The two governors reiterated their support for Ruto’s re-election bid, arguing that a second term would allow the administration to continue implementing its development agenda.
Their remarks come as political leaders begin positioning themselves and their preferred alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the question of Ruto’s running mate likely to feature in discussions surrounding the ruling coalition’s future
