Raila’s Bodyguard Reveals Final Video, Winnie Odinga’s Whereabouts and His Last Moments in India

Raila Odinga’s bodyguard, Maurice Ogeta, has shed light on the former Prime Minister’s final moments in India, clarifying a viral video showing him walking behind the late opposition leader.
He also revealed details about Raila’s final video and explained where his daughter, Winnie Odinga, and sister, Ruth Odinga, were during the period.
In an interview. Ogeta said the clip that circulated showing him walking behind Raila was during his first surgery in Dubai
“First of all, allow me just to put this one very straight. Whatever clip that was circulated or that went viral or whatever it is, with him in a gown, this and that, and I was behind. That was not the clip of India. That was the previous clip when we were in Dubai, when he did his first surgery,” he said.
Chronology of Events the Day Raila Odinga Died
He recalled that that particular morning Raila was in very high spirits and walked out by himself.
Ogeta said Raila, being a storyteller, even cracked jokes as they got ready to start walking.
He said the late Prime Minister started walking very fast, and he tried telling him to slow down.
However, Ogeta said he could not do that because Raila was known as a man with two speeds: fast and very fast; nothing like slow.
They went one circuit, then Raila stopped a bit after completing the first round of that circuit.
So, when he stopped, Ogeta said he looked aside, making him think that he wanted something.
“And then I was like, is there anything you want? So, I thought he would tell me, I bring him the phone. Because when he’s doing the walk, he normally likes putting on music. So, he carries the phone, there’s music, whatever, just to encourage him,” Ogeta said.
According to the aide, Raila resumed walking and did not turn off the path when he noticed Ogeta following him.
Ogeta said they had walked only a short distance, about 10 to 15 steps, when Raila stopped and stood still.
He recalled that Raila stood there, staring at something that appeared to be invisible.
“Then he looked like he was looking at something, which he was not even seeing, you know, where you were; I don’t know whether dazed or whatever, you’re just there,” he said.

This prompted him to ask Raila again whether he needed anything or was experiencing pain in his leg, back, or entire body.
After asking twice without receiving a response, he decided to move closer to Raila.
“Raila just turned, looked at me, and then gave me his hand. Then when I held his hand, I realised, because I wanted to start moving, to take him to the other seat where we had left the phones and all that, where we started. Then I saw him; he started sweating,” he said.
Ogeta said he decided to put him on a dusty bench which was close by after he realized Raila could not control his body.
“I realised he had no control of his body, because he came at me with his whole body, so he bumped into me,” he said.
“Then I took a different stance, so I had to hold him tight and firm from the back. So, I’m like, what is it? Then I realised his weight was giving in; he was getting heavier.”
Maurice Ogeta Reveals Real India Clip
Ogeta revealed that the real clip in India was showing Raila being brought from an ambulance and rushed to a hospital.
He said they got an ambulance and rushed him to the hospital which was 10 minutes drive.
“That was the clip, basically. From the facility here, we had to get an ambulance to go to the hospital, which was a 5- to 10-minute drive,” he said.

How Raila Died
Ogeta said he was with Dr. David Livingstone Oluoch-Olunya during this period
He said that many things happened after Raila arrived at the hospital.
“The way CPR was being done, I got worried, and I had to ask Dr. Olunya, like, even if he gets back to himself, I think we will still admit him here because some of his ribs will be broken because of the way it was being done. Dr. Olunya, whether he was managing me or not, said that is how it was being done,” he said.
Ogeta said one of the nurses at the facility had previously been to Kenya and recognised Raila Odinga when she saw him.

He added that the nurse later approached him to confirm whether the patient she had seen was indeed the late former Prime Minister.
“By the time they brought the electrical shock, I was like, no,” he said.
Ogeta said they started preparing some place within a very short time.
He said they brought a stand, placed a Bible and a candle on top of it.
Afterwards, a priest came, did some prayers, and left the facility.

All this time, Ogeta said Dr. Olunya assured him that was part of the tradition in India.
“I asked Dr. Olunya if we were okay. He said the hospital used to pray while treating people. They had told us nothing, but I had seen the movements. The priest came, did his prayers, folded the Bible, and left,” he said.
However, Ogeta said Dr. Olunya also started being worried as the incidents continued to unfold.
According to Ogeta, Dr. Olunya started looking for Winnie Odinga and Ruth Odinga while also asking for a room for counselling.
He said Winnie and Ruth were at Chapel, which was close to the facility.
“I went to Dr. Olunya, and he said he was looking for a room for counselling. I asked him what had happened, and he admitted that things were not very good and asked for Winnie and Ruth. They were there, but not with us. At that place, there is a chapel just around it,” he said.
Doctors Remove Machines
However, Ogeta said he asked Dr. Olunya to allow him to bring Winnie and Ruth if Raila had died.
He assured Dr. Olunya that the two women were strong enough to handle the shock and did not need a counselling room.
Ogeta added that shortly before he left to bring the two women, doctors began removing the machines attached to Raila’s body.
“He was like, ‘ Will you manage?’ and I told him yes. I told Dr. Olunya to allow me to call Winnie and Ruth Odinga. They were there; I went for them. Before I left, I started seeing them removing those things from the machines,” Ogeta said.
