Businesswoman Recounts Alleged Assault by Raila Odinga’s Security Officer During 2024 Event

“Back in March 2024… Baba came to my hotel for some event. After arrival Baba needed to take a bathroom break… I suggested that he does this in one of the rooms because there were over 2500 people in the compound and much as we were servicing the toilet every 30 mins I wasn’t sure they were clean enough for Baba considering the crowds size. Indeed we had reserved one holding guest room for Baba to use to freshen up and take a bathroom break when he landed but instead his handlers brought him straight to the restaurant,” she said.

“I was told since the rooms were far from the restaurant and the crowd was big, to just cross-check the cleanliness of the restaurant toilets so that Baba can use the same,” she added.

As a result, the businesswoman instructed one of her cleaners to mop the men’s washroom before Odinga could use it.

About five minutes later, she said Charles Odhiambo, whom she identified as a former Homa Bay County official and an aide to Odinga, asked her to accompany him and confirm whether the washroom had been cleaned.

Businesswoman Says Maurice Ogeta Pushed Her

Meanwhile, Odhiambo remained outside as the woman entered the washroom to check the cleaning progress.

Inside, one of her employees continued mopping while another staff member stood outside the door to stop people from entering.

However, the businesswoman alleged that a man suddenly entered the washroom, shoved the employee outside and then pushed her back into the facility.

“As I was turning by the sink area and walking towards the door to let the cleaner finalize cleaning the sink area ….. some man came in, shoved my staff who was outside the door, then came to the door and pushed me back in till I fell inside the toilet sink area with my back. I actually somehow strained a spinal disc and it still hurts on and off to date…. I had to go for a few chiropractor sessions with Dr Adagala,” she said.

She added that Odhiambo witnessed the incident. According to her account, he informed the man about her identity and asked him to apologize.

However, she alleged that the man refused to apologize.

The businesswoman later learned that the man was Maurice Ogeta, whom she identified as a member of Odinga’s personal security team.

Businesswoman Reported Incident to John Mbadi

Following the incident, the woman reported the matter to then-Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, according to a WhatsApp conversation dated August 8, 2024.

In the exchange, she told Mbadi that the man had allegedly manhandled her and refused to apologize despite being told who she was.

She also questioned the reason for the alleged push, pointing out that Odinga remained in the restaurant rather than inside the washroom.

“I don’t even know why he did that it wasn’t even like Baba was in the toilet. Baba was in the restaurant and in the toilet were my staff cleaning with m instructions. I actually don’t know it was necessary for him to push me anyone at that point or at all,” she told Mbadi.

Mbadi responded by expressing sympathy and assuring her that he would address the matter.

“Leave the matter to us; next time it won’t happen,” Mbadi wrote in the WhatsApp conversation.

The woman said she decided to report the incident because she did not know who else might have experienced similar treatment.

Businesswoman Calls for Respect Around VIPs

Years after the alleged incident, the woman said she still did not know whether Odinga ever learned what happened after she personally prepared the washroom for his use.

She also urged people who work around prominent leaders to treat members of the public with respect and gentleness.

“May Baba RIP,” she wrote, referring to Odinga, who died in October 2025.

Furthermore, the businesswoman claimed that someone had “manhandled” her again recently, although she said she would share details of that incident at a later time.
