A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) student from Kirinyaga County missed his first exam after unidentified people allegedly drugged him on his way to school.

The Form Four student at St. Philips Day Mixed Secondary School reportedly lost consciousness on Monday morning and was later found several miles away in Makuyu, Murang’a County.

According to the police reports, Muthii was found by a Good Samaritan who brought him to Makuyu Police Station.

Police officers confirmed that he was a student who was supposed to be sitting for his national examinations that morning.

Shock in Parents

His distraught parents, Julius Wamugunda and Mercy Wambura, reported that their son had left the house at 6 a.m. to sit the English Paper 1 examination.

“He left the house early in the morning and was excited and eager to start his exam. When the school called to tell us he had not arrived, we were shocked,” said his father.

“We looked for him everywhere until later in the day when we received a call from Makuyu Police Station saying he had been found unconscious but was alive,” added Wambura

The parents suspect that their son was actually drugged by people who might have been targeting passengers en route to Kutus town.

According to the police, the investigations are being conducted to determine what actually took place to the student and if there are other victims.

Officials Condemn the Ordeal

The education officials in Kirinyaga denounced the incident, terming it a tragic blow to a hard-working student.

“We urge all candidates and parents to be extra vigilant during this exam period. We are working to ensure such cases are taken care of,” a County Education Officer said.

Muthii is still recovering as education authorities are considering allowing him to sit for a special exam paper once cleared medically.
