President William Ruto appointed Dr. Charles Olang’o Onudi as the Non-Executive Chairperson of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
The appointment, announced through a gazette notice on November 7, 2025, will see Dr. Onudi serve a three-year term, effective the same date.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 7 (1) (a) of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Order, 2025, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Dr. Olang’o Onudi to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, for a period of three years, with effect from November 7, 2025,” read part of the notice.
Dr. Onudi has over 30 years of experience in the health sector, working from the position of a medical officer (circa 1985) through to senior levels of management.
He previously served as Director / Chief Executive Officer at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
He was nominated and vetted in 2016 for the role of County Executive Committee Member for Health in Siaya County.

On October 31, 2018, a judgment at the Employment & Labour Relations Court lists him as the 2nd Respondent in a case involving the County Government of Kisumu County in his capacity as Acting County Secretary.
In 2019, he presided over discussions with the National Union of Nurses that led to the end of the strike that had stopped health operations across the country.

He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from the University of Nairobi.
Onudi also possesses a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam.
He has attended additional medical‑related and health‐management courses in various institutions.
