Revealed: Why ICC Delegation Held Talks With Kenya’s Chief Justice

Chief Justice Martha Koome has confirmed she hosted a delegation from the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

ICC Secretary General Alexander G. Fessas and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Kenya branch, Chairperson Prof. Wayne Mutuma led their delegations.

Speaking on November 11th, 2025, CJ Koome said the meeting was fruitful and they are looking forward to strengthen Kenya’s position as a premier arbitration.

In addition, Kenya will also serve as resolution hub in Africa.

“The meeting was both fruitful and forward-looking, focusing on strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening Kenya’s position as a premier arbitration and dispute resolution hub in Africa,” CJ Koome said.

What is the Goal Behind Engagements

The Chief Justice said engagement is aimed to explore ways for partnerships in capacity-building for judges and practitioners.

She added that it will ease promotion of ADR, enhance accessibility and efficient pathway to justice in the country.

“The engagement explored avenues for partnership in capacity-building for judges and practitioners and the promotion of ADR as a viable, accessible, and efficient pathway to justice in Kenya. This is critical to the realisation of the multi-door approach to justice in line with the Judiciary blueprint, Social Transformation Through Access to Justice (STAJ),” she added.

What is the Role of ICC

ICC is an organization with more than 6 million members from countries around the world which helps to strengthen and govern the interests of individuals and organizations in every part of private enterprise.

It fosters standards and rules that govern the international business transactions in most cases by the use of Incoterms rules highlights all responsibilities of buyers and sellers in international trade.

Due to it’s partnership with International Court of Arbitration, it becomes easier to resolve international commercial disputes by laying down neutral ground for businesses to settle conflicts.

Additionally, ICC serves as voice for global business community by advocating for promotion of open markets, elimination of trade barriers in forums like United Nations and G20.
