Dagoretti South Member of Parliament (MP) John Kiarie has been elected the Global President of the World Scout Parliamentary Union (WSPU).
His election was announced at the conclusion of the 11th WSPU General Assembly held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
Chosen by the Executive Committee, Hon. Kiarie pledged to champion the implementation of the Assembly’s resolutions, expressing gratitude for the trust bestowed upon him while recognizing the magnitude of the task ahead.
In his acceptance remarks, Kiarie noted the global challenges facing the world today but expressed confidence that the scouting movement could help shape solutions.
“I come into office at a time of great global shakeups, a reality in the world today,” he commenced.
“But there is space for us scouts to put our mark on the global footprint and make it better,” he stated.
Emphasizing the relevance of scouting beyond traditional settings, he added, “A lot is happening globally, but there is a place for scouting in government, institutions, religion, family, and the society. We are called to lead. Today, the world is crying, and critical thinkers to make informed decisions are needed, and WSPU in its special place, has a big role to play.”
The new president further urged the inclusion of emotional intelligence in personal development worldwide.
“We are called upon as a generation to make emotional intelligence an essential need for every child and adult globally, and to bring back logic to problem-solving,” he stated.

Hon. Kiarie also pointed out the need for awareness and self-evaluation in tackling persistent global challenges, citing femicide as one of the issues that require urgent attention.
“We currently have a big epidemic of femicide in our society, yet the skill of problem solving can come in handy to avert such situations,” he said.
Encouraging delegates to embrace their identities, Kiarie reminded them, “There is a great need to refocus and reanchor ourselves to belonging, be proud of who we are, be proud of the family we come from, and to be associated with the organizations that we partner with.”
He stressed that patriotism remains a cornerstone for global cooperation.
“From all deliberations, we have been told there is a great need to refocus and anchor ourselves to belonging, and that calls upon us to have the virtue of patriotism to face both local challenges and global disasters,” he urged.

In closing, the Dagoretti South legislator reaffirmed his readiness to lead with commitment and unity.
“I am more than ready to undertake all the duties and responsibilities that will be bestowed upon me as President, and we shall stand together as one to achieve this mission as scouts,” he concluded.
