Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has issued a detailed list of 15 key pledges she wants President William Ruto to fulfil for the county, urging the Head of State to honour commitments that remain pending despite earlier assurances.

In an official communication addressed to the President, the governor expressed gratitude for his visit to the Lower Eastern Region, particularly Machakos County, before outlining what she termed as crucial and overdue government obligations.

Governor Ndeti opened the letter by stating, “On behalf of the Machakos County people, we welcome your visit to Lower Eastern Region and, in particular, to Machakos County.”

She explained that the county government values cooperation grounded in the Constitution and the Intergovernmental Relations Act of 2012, saying the purpose of the message was to bring to his attention several “unmet pledges that are critical to our people’s welfare.”

Among the first set of requests, the governor highlighted five urgent financial and land-related concerns.

She pointed out the need for “KSh. 250 million towards the construction of the Mavoko Level 4 Hospital,” and “KSh. 300 million for the Masinga Water Intake Project in Masinga Constituency as advertised by Tanathi.”

She also urged the national government to ensure “peaceful, fair settlement and compensation for families affected by the Portland land homes demolitions,” while additionally calling for a review of “the high land values affecting the residents of KCB land regularization in Mavoko.”

The county is also requesting “KSh. 200 million for the construction of Mavoko Stadium in Athi River Sub-County.”

Stalled Projects Awaiting Completion

Governor Ndeti also reiterated several public commitments made previously to the people of Machakos.

She reminded the President of unfinished roads across various sub-counties, including the stalled Oldonyo Sabuk Road in Matungulu, the Kenol–Mitaboni–Kaani Road in Kathiani, and the Matuu–Ekalakala Road in Masinga.

She said the county expects immediate action on the long-promised Yatta Dam and the stalled Kivandini–Kyasioni Road in Yatta.

The governor further cited the urgent need to clean Athi River, which she described as “the main source of water to Thyake Dam.”

She called for the tarmacking of the Katangi–Ikombe–Kyasioni–Matuu Road in Yatta Constituency and issuance of title deeds to residents of the Njoguini settlement in Athi River.

Other pending commitments include tarmacking the Kangundo–Mwala Road, previously advertised by the national government, and constructing the Miw’ongoni Dam in Machakos Town.

Government Projects Acknowledged

Despite the list of pending demands, Governor Ndeti acknowledged ongoing national government projects within the county.

She noted “the ongoing tarmacking of the Kinanie–Joska Road which started during the previous regime,” commending efforts to complete the work.

She also appreciated “the ongoing construction of the ESP markets” and the progress of the Mwala Water Cluster Project.

The governor closed her message by urging the President to ensure future commitments are honoured on time.

She wrote that development pledges should be completed “so that the people of Machakos and the region at large can start drawing the benefits immediately without having to wait for too long.”
