Ena Coach has spoken out for the first time following public uproar over the welfare of one of its drivers, who lost a limb after a February 17 accident while on duty.

In a statement released on November 14, the company addressed claims circulating online regarding support for the driver, Tom Ondieki, who served with the firm for seven months before the crash in Gwoiyo.

The company said it has been assisting him “both morally and materially” since the incident.

Ena Coach said it lodged an insurance claim immediately after the accident and submitted all required documentation upon Ondieki’s discharge from the hospital.

According to the statement, all further engagement was directed to the driver’s lawyer after he appointed legal representation.

To boost its support, the company said it involved the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS), noting that Ondieki was issued with all required forms and that the claim is awaiting approval from his attending doctor.

Ena also stated its office has maintained regular contact with Ondieki to facilitate the compensation process, though it admitted cooperation “has at times been challenging.”

The firm pushed back against suggestions of neglect, saying staff welfare remains a priority and citing previous cases where similar compensation had been successfully processed.

Action to be Taken

It assured the public that Ondieki will receive “all the justice and support he deserves.”

Ena Coach appealed to the injured driver to continue cooperating with both the company and the relevant authorities so the matter can be concluded fairly.

“Our commitment to the well-being of our employees is unwavering,” the company said. “We will continue to act in good faith to ensure all procedures are followed and rights are upheld.”

The company thanked the public for what it termed continued trust amid mounting pressure on social media.
