Nicco Movers Suspends Driver After Viral Passenger Misconduct Allegations

Nicco Movers Ltd has suspended a driver and other individuals linked to an alleged passenger misconduct incident after a video circulating on social media accused one of its employees of inappropriate behaviour.
In a statement dated July 16, Nicco Movers said it had become aware of a video circulating on social media alleging inappropriate conduct by one of its drivers towards a passenger.
The company added that it is treating the allegations with the seriousness they deserve and has launched an internal investigation in line with its policies.
“Nicco Movers Ltd has become aware of a video circulating on social media alleging inappropriate conduct by an individual identified as one of our drivers towards a passenger,” read part of the statement.
Nicco Movers Suspends Individuals Pending Investigation
According to Nicco Movers, the claims include allegations of indecent behaviour, intimidating remarks and an inappropriate response after the incident was reported.
“We take these allegations very seriously. The claims, which include indecent behaviour, intimidating remarks, and an alleged inappropriate response after the incident was reported. This matter is already under investigation in accordance with the company’s policies,” the company stated.

Additionally, the company said the driver and conductor had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
“Subsequently, the individuals concerned have been suspended pending the conclusion of the investigation,” Nicco added.
Nicco further reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, accountability, and customer service and added that it will continue strengthening its internal processes to ensure appropriate action is taken whenever reports of misconduct arise.
Passaris Calls for DCI Investigation Into Alleged Driver’s Misconduct
This comes hours after a female passenger reported that the driver of bus KDS 195S committed an indecent act in front of passengers and gave them unsettling remarks when she confronted him.
The woman further alleged that when she reported the incident to Nicco Movers management, she was met with victim-blaming instead of support.
This incident has sparked public outcry, with Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris publicly condemning both the alleged misconduct and the company’s handling of the complaint.

Passaris called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to urgently investigate the allegations and take appropriate legal action if it establishes that any offences were committed.
She further urged Nicco Movers Ltd to cooperate fully with investigators and strengthen measures to guarantee the safety and dignity of all passengers.
Passaris also expressed sympathy, saying she was sorry for the experience the woman allegedly went through and reaffirmed that every person deserves to travel in safety and dignity.
