The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revoked the operating license of NICCO Movers 1 SACCO with immediate effect following investigations into an incident that led to the death of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student.

In a notice dated Friday, June 12, 2026, NTSA announced that the SACCO’s Public Transport Operator (PTO) license had been withdrawn after a review of its safety practices and compliance status.

The move comes days after Eugene Mutuku, a KMTC student, reportedly died after being pushed from a moving matatu allegedly operated under the SACCO.

According to NTSA, investigations revealed serious safety concerns within the SACCO’s operations.

“As part of the ongoing investigation into the unfortunate incident that claimed the life of Eugene Mutuku, a KMTC student, the Authority conducted a thorough assessment of the operator’s safety practices and compliance status,” NTSA said.

KMTC Student Dies After Being Pushed by Moving Matatu

The NTSA decision comes days after the death of a student who was allegedly pushed from a moving Nicco Movers Sacco matatu along the busy Nairobi-Thika Highway.

The student, identified as Eugene Mutuku, was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after the incident but succumbed to his injuries on June 6, 2026.

According to reports, the incident involved a matatu bearing registration number KDV 713J. Videos that circulated widely on social media appeared to show the student falling onto the road from the moving vehicle before the matatu continued with its journey.

The student was reportedly rescued by a motorist who witnessed the incident and rushed him to the hospital.

His death sparked outrage among Kenyans, with many calling for swift action against those responsible and demanding stricter oversight of public service vehicles.

The tragedy also renewed concerns about passenger safety in the matatu industry, coming months after another fatal incident involving a public service vehicle.

In February, 25-year-old Joseph Mureithi died after he was allegedly thrown from a moving bus along the Kitengela-Namanga Highway. Police later arrested the driver and conductor as investigations got underway.
