There is growing public anger after a high school student died days after he was allegedly pushed from a moving matatu belonging to Nicco Movers Sacco along the Nairobi-Thika route.
The student was receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) following the incident but was pronounced dead on Friday, June 6, 2026, in the afternoon.
According to reports, the incident involved a matatu with registration number KDV 713J. A video circulating on social media shows the student falling onto the road after he was allegedly pushed out of the moving vehicle. The matatu then continued with its journey.
The student was rescued by the driver of a private car who witnessed the incident. The driver reportedly rushed him to KNH and remained with him throughout his treatment until he passed away.

The tragedy has revived concerns about passenger safety and the behaviour of some matatu crews.
In February this year, 25-year-old petrol station attendant Joseph Mureithi died after he was allegedly thrown from a moving Super Metro bus along the Kitengela-Namanga Highway. Reports indicated that he was later run over by the same vehicle.
Police arrested the driver and conductor in that case as investigations began.
The latest incident also comes just a day after five people were killed and at least 12 others injured when a matatu travelling from Nairobi CBD to Komarock overturned along Enterprise Road in the Industrial Area.
