KNEC Gives Schools More Time to Upload SBA Scores for Grades 4 and 5

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has granted a two-week extension for uploading School-Based Assessment (SBA) marks for Grades 4 and 5, providing schools more time to finalize outstanding submissions on the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.
The new upload deadline for Grade 4 and 5 SBA marks on the CBA portal is Thursday, June 18, 2026, according to a public notice issued by KNEC this week.
This extension aims to assist institutions that are still in the process of uploading these marks and those who have outstanding upload requirements to conclude them before the system closes.
“All Heads of Institutions are encouraged to utilize this opportunity to complete all pending uploads and address any gaps before the portal is closed,” KNEC stated.

KNEC Warns of Penalties for Non-Compliance with SBA Score Uploads
KNEC cautioned that failure to comply after the extension will attract penalties, though it did not provide specific details on the nature of these penalties.
Previous notices from the council had highlighted potential implications for learners’ overall scores and schools’ compliance with the new curriculum requirements if SBA scores are not uploaded on time.
SBA is an integral part of the Competency-Based Curriculum that allows for continuous evaluation of learners over the academic year.
Grade 4 and 5 SBA scores are uploaded by schools through the CBA portal.

Exam Registration Deadlines and Data Upload
The council also reminded all institutions that registration for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KEPSA), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations for 2026 has closed.
Heads of institutions were strongly advised to immediately log in to the CBA portal to ensure all learners’ data and SBA scores have been successfully uploaded, and to contact KNEC support for any challenges they may encounter.
This announcement was disseminated through KNEC’s social media channels and on its official website at www.knec.ac.ke.
Institutions were further cautioned that the June 18 deadline is final, and no further extension is expected.
