Safaricom has announced a scheduled system upgrade on its Fuliza overdraft platform that is expected to cause intermittent service interruptions early Monday morning.

In a notice issued on November 15, the telco said the maintenance exercise will take place on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 12:01 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., affecting only Fuliza services.

All other M-Pesa functions, including sending money, withdrawals, and Lipa na M-Pesa, will remain operational.

Safaricom said the upgrade is part of its broader effort to improve reliability, security, and customer experience across its mobile money ecosystem.

The firm assured users that the timing of the maintenance was deliberately chosen to ensure minimal disruption, stating that only brief inconsistencies in Fuliza access may be experienced during the two-hour window.

“During the maintenance period, Fuliza services may be intermittent. All other M-PESA services will remain available as usual.”

Safaricom apologized for any inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their continued support as it works to strengthen the stability of its financial services.

“We apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused and thank you for your continued support.”

Fuliza Performance 2025

Kenyans tapped heavily into Safaricom’s Fuliza overdraft between May and November 2025, drawing a total of Ksh 629.2 billion.

This is a sharp 39.8 percent jump compared to the same window last year.

Safaricom’s half-year results show active Fuliza users climbed to 9.1 million, up from 7.5 million, marking a 22.2 percent rise.

The average amount borrowed also edged up, increasing from Ksh 236.20 to Ksh 254.60, a 7.8 percent growth.

The service attracts a one-off access charge of 1 percent and a daily maintenance fee that ranges from Ksh 1 to Ksh 30 based on the loan band.

Still, only 17.8 percent of Safaricom’s 51.12 million customers within a 90-day period use the overdraft facility, despite its surging popularity.
