What is Uterus Transplant

A uterus transplant is a groundbreaking surgical procedure where a healthy uterus is transplanted into a person who either doesn’t have one or has a non-functional uterus.

It is primarily designed to help individuals with absolute uterine factor infertility (AUFI)—meaning they cannot get pregnant due to the absence or dysfunction of the uterus.

The surgery is performed for the following reasons:

  • To enable pregnancy in people who otherwise couldn’t carry a child due to AUFI.
  • Offers a potential path to biological motherhood for women born without a uterus or who’ve had it removed due to medical conditions.
