The Kenyan government has ordered Kakuzi PLC to surrender 3,200 acres of land to settle long-standing historical land injustice claims.
This order follows an investigative hearing by the National Land Commission (NLC), which reviewed complaints from communities living around Kakuzi’s agricultural holdings in Murang’a County.
In a statement to shareholders, Kakuzi confirmed the NLC had finished its investigation and that issued binding recommendations.
“We are reviewing the recommendations and exploring legal options to protect the interests of the shareholders,” the company said.
1. Surrender 3,200 acres to the most vulnerable claimants.
2. Collaborate with the government agencies to vet and profile beneficiaries.
3. Facilitate titling and conclude all the existing settlement schemes.
4. Regularize public utilities and reserved lands for schools and institutions.
5 . Relocate schools and public facilities facing access challenges or provide proper roads.
6. Regularize all land previously surrendered to Muranga County, including markets and amenities.
7ย .Donate another 50 acres of land to the community urban development in exchange for 5 acres for amenities.

Kakuzi, listed on both the Nairobi Securities Exchange and the London Stock Exchange, warned that the recommendations would interfere with operations.
The company said,”Any disruption to our agricultural operations would affect earnings, potentially leading to loss of jobs and reduced shareholder value.
“It emphasized it would pursue every legal measure to protect its investments as well as those of its 1,400 shareholders.

The company advised shareholders to be cautious when trading Kakuzi shares as the court cases are proceeding.
“The settlement process will only proceed once all the legal interventions are concluded,” Kakuzi added
