If you’re looking for places to visit in Mbeere North, then there are a few interesting places, mostly nature, Dams, and rural-cultural settings.
Mbeere North is more of semi-arid and less “tourist polished” than some areas.
1. Kiambere Dam
Although Kiambere has been a rich source of fish and a favoured fishing spot by locals for many years now, its omens are that its murky waters are also swarmed over with crocodiles and hippos, which have been the subject of an indignant human-wildlife conflict.
The main highlight for visitors to Kiambere, and also to Kindaruma, is a chance to see the gushing and unsettling tailrace.
There’s also the Kiambere Irrigation Project, started in 1996. It is situated 38 km from Kivaa centre.
2. Mwea National Reserve
According to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Mwea is one of the country’s most peaceful protected areas, a place where nature flourishes undisturbed.
The reserve spans a landscape shaped by dry bushland and scattered with iconic feathered acacia trees.
Game drives at Mwea National Reserve offer a thrilling way to experience wildlife in Kenya with its scenic landscape, diverse wildlife, and conservation efforts.
Since Mwea Park borders the Tana River and the Thiba River, there are opportunities for exploring the waters and trying out water activities.
Boating not only offers the opportunity to navigate through the waters and explore the rivers’ channels, but it also gives you the chance to explore marine life.

During your boat rides, you will notice some of the water creatures like crocodiles and hippos, among other aquatic animals.
If you have the necessary permits, you might also get a chance to catch a fish at the Tana River.
Bird watching is one of the main attractions at Mwea National Park, and it is a haven for bird enthusiasts since it offers a diverse range of birds that you can spot.
The park has been reported to have more than 200 species of birds, including some rare and endangered species.

Because Mbeere North is mostly semi-arid and rural;
The local population (the Mbeere people) largely practices farming, beekeeping, livestock-rearing, and traditional crafts like basketry, pottery, and leatherwork.
Exploring villages gives insight into this lifestyle.
If you enjoy authentic rural visits, maybe visiting farms, local markets, and seeing how people depend on honey, livestock, and agriculture, Mbeere North offers that glimpse into traditional livelihoods.
This kind of “experience travel” is less about lodges or tourist amenities and more about connecting with local communities and understanding their way of life.
