President William Ruto has departed Nairobi for Washington, D.C., at the invitation of U.S. President Donald J. Trump to attend the official signing of the DRC–Rwanda Peace Agreement.
The announcement was made through a press statement issued by State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on December 2, 2025.
According to the statement, “President William Ruto departs this afternoon for Washington, D.C., in the U.S.A. to join President Paul Kagame and President Félix Tshisekedi in witnessing the official signing of the DRC–Rwanda Peace Agreement.”
State House described the signing as a landmark breakthrough after decades of conflict in Eastern DRC, noting that the Washington event represents the most significant advancement achieved through collaborative regional peace efforts.
The statement added that the process builds on earlier diplomatic milestones, saying, “Building on the Nairobi and Luanda Peace Processes as well as the joint EAC–SADC initiative, the Washington signing brings together all key parties.”

While in Washington, President Ruto is scheduled to participate in high-level engagements centred on advancing Kenya’s strategic interests in trade, investment, health cooperation, and security.
The new health agreement marks a major shift from the 25-year partnership to a sustainable, government-led model aimed at strengthening Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and building a self-reliant national health system by 2030.
The State House spokesperson noted, “The President will also witness the signing of the Kenya–U.S. Health Cooperation Framework.”
Ruto will also outline Kenya’s long-term development strategy anchored in economic transformation, modernised infrastructure, and enhanced energy security.
During the visit, the President is set to pursue Public–Private Partnership (PPP) investments across key priority sectors, including energy, agriculture, and industrial development.
The the Washington engagements is seen as crucial to attracting global partners to support Kenya’s economic aspirations.
The statement emphasised, “President Ruto will endeavour to outline Kenya’s new economic transformation agenda towards a first-world economy, driven by human capital development, infrastructure expansion, agro-industrial growth, and expanded irrigation through extensive dam construction.”

The State House further indicated that Ruto’s mission includes promoting Kenya as a stable, investment-ready nation seeking sustainable partnerships.
The spokesperson added, “He will seek Public–Private Partnership investment in these priority sectors, alongside enhanced energy security initiatives, to support the country’s long-term development aspirations.”
