Alliance High School Closes Temporarily After Fire Incident

Alliance High School has sent students home after a mattress store within the school compound caught fire on Thursday morning, June 4, 2026.
The school’s principal confirmed the incident and assured parents and the public that all students were safe.
Following the fire, parents and guardians were asked to pick up their children as a precautionary measure.
Speaking after the incident, the principal said the fire affected a mattress store but did not cause injuries to students or staff.
“All students are safe,” the principal confirmed.
The school administration moved quickly to ensure the safety of learners and staff as emergency response teams dealt with the situation.

Alliance High School Joins Growing List of Schools Affected by Fire Incidents
The incident at Alliance High School comes at a time when schools across the country are facing increased concerns over fires, arson attempts, and student unrest.
Just last week May 28, a tragic fire at the Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil claimed the lives of 16 students and left dozens injured.
Investigators later arrested several students after CCTV footage and forensic investigations linked them to the suspected arson attack.
Authorities alleged that a mattress was set on fire at a dormitory exit, trapping many learners inside.
The tragedy sparked renewed calls for stricter safety measures in boarding schools, including improved fire preparedness, functioning emergency exits, and enhanced surveillance systems.

In another recent case, Barding Boys High School in Siaya County was closed indefinitely after authorities uncovered an alleged plan to set parts of the school on fire.
Police arrested three students after investigators reportedly recovered a flammable substance believed to be petrol within the school compound.
School administrators said swift action helped prevent a potential disaster.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the mattress store fire at Alliance High School and assess the extent of the damage.
