Amsons Group Managing Director and CEO Edha Nahdi has called for stronger business ties between Kenya and Tanzania, saying the two countries can drive economic growth in the region by working together.
Nahdi spoke during the Tanzania–Kenya Business Forum held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre on Monday, May 4, 2026.
The forum was attended by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and President William Ruto, who is on a two-day state visit to Tanzania. Renowned Tanzanian businessman Rostam Aziz was also among those present.
Speaking at the event, Nahdi said Amsons has had a positive experience doing business in Kenya.
“Our experience in Kenya has been one of growth and a warm reception. We have found a market that needs more infrastructure and a workforce that is highly skilled,” he said.
He noted that Amsons recently expanded into Kenya by acquiring a 69% stake in East African Portland Cement Company (EAPC) and taking over Bamburi Cement.
“We have not just bought assets. We have taken responsibility to support Kenya’s development goals,” Nahdi said.
He explained that entering the Kenyan market was not easy, as the company had failed in earlier attempts in 2012 and 2017–2018 before finally succeeding in 2024.
Nahdi praised the business environment in Kenya, saying government policies have made it easier for investors.

Nahdi also spoke about the need to improve trade between the two countries. He said goods should move easily across the border.
“We want to see a future where trucks move between our countries as easily as people move within one city,” he said.
He added that the presence of both presidents at the forum shows a commitment to improving trade and investment between Kenya and Tanzania.
The Tanzania–Kenya Business Forum aims to strengthen business relations and increase trade between the two countries.
