Anne Waiguru Breaks Silence on Breakup Rumours With Kamotho Waiganjo

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has responded to claims that she and her husband, Kamotho Waiganjo, have quietly separated after a social media post by Facebook writer Dominic Mutai sparked online conversations.
Mutai alleged that the couple, who have been together for years, had gone their separate ways, a claim that quickly attracted reactions from Kenyans online.
Responding to the claims on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Waiguru appeared to dismiss the allegations with humour.
“Ati nimewachwa, siwezi kubali kuwachwa na hii baridi yote ya Gichugu,” loosely translated as, “That I have supposedly been left; I cannot accept being left in all this cold weather of Gichugu,” Waiguru said.
The comment came after Mutai shared details about Waiguru and Waiganjo’s relationship journey, tracing their first meeting to 2009 during the constitution-making process.
Mutai’s claims on the couple’s love story
According to Mutai, Waiguru, and Waiganjo first met while working as consultants for parties negotiating the new constitution.

He claimed their relationship began during a trip to Mombasa, where they were heading to a constitutional forum.
Mutai said the two fell in love at the Likoni ferry, where they shared a simple meal of bread and soda before Waiganjo asked for Waiguru’s phone number.
“After that, Waiganjo pursued her through phone conversations,” Mutai wrote.
Mutai further alleged that Waiguru later accepted a date at a Thai restaurant in Nairobi.
He proceeded to claim that the pair had their first disagreement during that date because Waiguru was constantly on her phone, a moment that reportedly led to an agreement to keep their phones away during personal time.
Mutai also stated that Waiganjo later proposed on his birthday at the Lord Erroll Hotel in Nairobi before the two held their traditional engagement on February 16, 2019.
Comments from Kenyans Online
The allegations have since generated mixed reactions from social media users, with some questioning why public figures often become targets of relationship speculation.

“When you see legends, reply to clout, know it is a thin thread holding them together,” Facebook user Stephen Sang commented.
“You don’t have to stop and throw stones at every dog that barks. If you are walking behind them, they won’t see you, but as long as you are in front of them, they must throw mud at you,” Immaculate Munyi, a Facebook user, wrote.
Meanwhile, Wainaina’s Son advised public figures to avoid engaging with every allegation.
“Silence is the best answer, but trying to explain is where you empower your enemies and give them missiles to attack you more,” Wainaina advised.
Waiguru’s humorous response has since become the center of the online debate, with many Kenyans interpreting it as a light-hearted reaction to the claims rather than a confirmation of any marital issues.
Neither Waiguru nor Waiganjo has issued a formal statement confirming any separation, leaving the matter largely as social media speculation.
