The death of Zein Abubaker Zein comes weeks after that of former Kilgoris Member of Parliament and former Cabinet Minister Gideon Sitelu Konchellah who died while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

Former East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Zein Abubaker Zein has died while receiving treatment,days after an appeal was made to the public to support his medical treatment.
His death was announced after family, friends, and supporters had earlier called for financial contributions, saying he was critically ill and required assistance.
Supporters described Abubaker Zein as a long-serving advocate for democratic governance and accountable leadership in Kenya.
“Zein Abubakar has dedicated his life to the struggle for democratic and accountable political leadership in Kenya. He is critically ill and we call for your financial contribution today,” the appeal read.

In addition, the fundraising appeal invited well-wishers to attend a fundraiser held at Alliance Française to help raise money for his treatment.

Zein Abubakar is the Executive Director of Muslims for Human Rights, former Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and chair of its Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution Committee.
He served as an elected Member of Parliament representing Kenya in the regional assembly during the 3rd Assembly from 2012 to 2017..
Zein Abubakar is also a former Commissioner at the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC) and a founder director of the Orature Collective.
Former Kilgoris MP Dies

Konchellah, who had reportedly been battling illness since late 2025, died in the early hours of Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to family sources and government officials.
Current Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli mourned the former legislator as a leader who played a significant role in the constituency’s political history.
He added that the late politician dedicated two decades of service to the people of Kilgoris and described his death as a major loss to the region.
President William Ruto also confirmed the death, saying Konchellah’s life was shaped by the lives he had touched and the faith his people placed in him.
