Bolt Responds to Claims It Is Leaving the Kenyan Market

Bolt has issued a clarification following a viral post on social media referencing an alleged incident involving one of its driver-partners.

In a statement dated June 8, 2026, issued by Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager for East Africa at Bolt, the company clarified that the incident did not take place in Kenya, as suggested, but in Nigeria.

However, Bolt noted that the matter had already been handled in that market through its established safety and review procedures.

“We are aware of a post circulating on social media referencing an alleged incident involving a driver-partner on our platform. We wish to clarify that the incident in question did not occur in Kenya but in Nigeria, where it has already been addressed through our established safety procedures,” read part of the statement.

The company further reiterated that user safety remains its top priority, stressing that all reported concerns are treated seriously and reviewed through formal procedures.

Bolt also encouraged users to report safety concerns directly through the Bolt app, where they can be properly reviewed and addressed.

In addition, it argued that relying on official channels ensures faster and more accurate handling of such issues.

“We encourage everyone to rely on verified information and to report any concerns directly through the Bolt app, where they will be promptly and thoroughly addressed,” the statement read.

Bolt reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and trusted service for both passengers and driver-partners across its operating regions.

Previous Claims of Exiting Kenya

Bolt urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, noting that misleading posts can distort public understanding of incidents involving the platform.

This comes shortly after the company dismissed false reports that it plans to cease operations in Kenya, assuring customers and driver-partners that its services remain fully operational across the country.

In a statement issued on June 1, Bolt said it had become aware of a fraudulent document being shared online and through messaging platforms, claiming that the company would exit the Kenyan market on June 8, 2026.

However, the company further urged the public to verify information before sharing it and to seek updates directly from the company’s verified communication channels.

Bolt moved swiftly to reassure its customers, driver-partners, and stakeholders that its operations in the country remain unaffected.

“It has come to our attention that a fraudulent document purporting to be an official communication from Bolt Kenya is currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms,” the company stated.

According to the company, the document falsely claims that the ride-hailing platform will stop operating in Kenya within days.
