Bolt Responds to Claims It Is Leaving the Kenyan Market

Ride-hailing platform Bolt has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that it plans to cease operations in Kenya next week, describing the claims as false and malicious.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, 2026, the company clarified that a document widely shared on social media and messaging platforms, which purported to announce Bolt’s exit from the Kenyan market effective June 8, 2026, was fraudulent and did not originate from the company.
The clarification came hours after the notice sparked concern among drivers and customers who rely on the platform for transport services and income generation.
The document, dated June 1, 2026, claimed that the company had decided to cease operations in Kenya following consultations and a review of its business operations.
However,it strongly denied authoring the notice.
“We wish to categorically state that this document is FAKE and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives,” the company said.
The company further assured users that its operations across the country remain unchanged.
“Bolt Kenya remains fully operational and committed to serving our driver-partners and customers across the country.”
Viral Notice Raised Concerns
The notice alleged that Bolt would shut down its Kenyan operations on June 8, 2026, citing difficulties in addressing concerns raised by drivers while maintaining a sustainable business model.
“Despite our efforts, we have been unable to satisfactorily address the concerns and demands raised by our driver-partners while maintaining a sustainable business model,”read part of the notice
The document quickly gained traction online, leading to widespread speculation about the future of one of Kenya’s leading ride-hailing platforms.
The claims caused concern among thousands of drivers who depend on the platform for their livelihoods and customers who use the service for daily transport.

Bolt Investigating Source of the Document
Bolt said it has launched investigations to establish the source of the fabricated communication.
The company warned that it would take appropriate action against individuals responsible for creating and sharing false information.
According to Bolt, spreading misleading information can create unnecessary panic among users and business partners.

Services Remain Unaffected
Bolt emphasized that its services across Kenya remain fully operational.

“Our services across Kenya remain unaffected,” the company noted.
Bolt has urged the public to rely on information shared through its official communication channels.
