Britam Asset Managers Announces New Board Chair As Herta von Stiegel Retires

Britam Asset Managers (Kenya) Limited has announced the appointment of Joe Muchekehu as the new Chairperson of its Board of Directors following the retirement of Herta von Stiegel as Chairperson and Independent Non-Executive Director.

In a notice dated July 22, the company said Joe Muchekehu’s appointment took effect on July 3, 2026, the same date Herta von Stiegel officially retired from the Board.

“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of FCPA Dr. Joe Muchekehu as Chairperson of Britam Asset Managers (Kenya) Limited, with effect from 3rd July 2026,” read part of the notice.

Britam Asset Managers Pays Tribute to Outgoing Board Chair Herta von Stiegel

According to Britam Asset Managers, Herta von Stiegel joined the company’s Board of Directors in 2018 and served as Chairperson from 2020.

In addition, the company credited her leadership with steering the business through a period of significant growth and transformation and expressed appreciation for her leadership, dedication, and contribution to the company over the past eight years.

Britam Asset Managers further explained that von Stiegel, who is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ariya Capital Group Limited, stepped down from the Board to avoid any potential conflict of interest as the company expands its focus on alternative investments.

The Board also wished the former Chairperson success in her future endeavours and said it looks forward to working with her in different capacities.

“The Board wishes Dr. Herta von Stiegel every success in her future endeavors and looks forward to working with her in different capacities,” read part of the notice.

Joe Muchekehu Brings Over 50 Years of Experience

Britam Asset Managers said Joe Muchekehu brings more than five decades of experience in accounting, auditing, consulting and financial management and has played a significant role in the development of the accountancy profession in East Africa.

“Dr. Muchekehu has over 50 years’ experience in accounting, auditing, consulting, and financial management, and has been instrumental in the development of the accountancy profession in East Africa,” Britam Asset Managers stated.

The company stated that Muchekehu previously served as Chairperson of the Council of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and as the Founding Chairperson and Trustee of KCA University.

He was also the first country representative on the International Assembly of Chartered Certified Accountants.

In addition to his appointment as Chairperson of Britam Asset Managers, Muchekehu serves on the boards of Britam South Sudan and Continental Reinsurance (Kenya) Limited.
