Britam Unveils First-Ever Youth Advisory Council Across Seven African Countries

Britam Holdings Plc has established its first-ever Youth Advisory Council, appointing eight young professionals from seven African countries to help shape the insurer’s products, customer experience, brand engagement and financial inclusion initiatives.

In a notice dated August 7, the company said the new council is part of its efforts to incorporate youth perspectives into its operations and long-term business strategy. The appointments took effect on July 20, 2026.

“Britam Holdings Pic is pleased to announce the establishment of the Britam Youth Advisory Council, a platform designed to provide structured youth insights to inform product development, customer experience, brand engagement and financial inclusion initiatives,” read part of the notice.

Why Britam Established the Youth Advisory Council 

According to Britam, the council will ensure that young people’s perspectives are incorporated into the company’s decision-making and long-term strategy. 

Additionally, the company stated that the platform will ensure that the views of young people are considered in decision-making as it seeks to strengthen customer-centric innovation and sustainability.

“The establishment of the Council affirms Britam’s commitment to customer-centric innovation, sustainability and long-term value creation for young people, who represent a significant and growing segment of Britam’s current and future customer base, workforce and distribution ecosystem and will strengthen Britam’s relevance and impact among young people across,” Britam stated.

Britam also noted that young people represent a growing segment of its current and future customer base, workforce and distribution network, making their input critical to the company’s long-term growth.

The council comprises young professionals aged between 24 and 37 drawn from all markets where the Britam Group operates, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, Mozambique and Malawi. 

Britam’s Board of Directors said the appointments mark the beginning of the company’s first Youth Advisory Council.

The Leaders Appointed to Advise on Youth-Focused Initiatives 

The inaugural Britam Youth Advisory Council comprises:

Loraine Achar-Ogada, 

She is an investment and finance professional with more than a decade of experience in investment banking, venture capital, private equity and corporate finance.

Brian Abel

He is a digital transformation and growth strategist with expertise in innovation, technology, partnerships and customer engagement across Africa.

Matu Kihato

He is an entrepreneur, business executive and founder of Providence Africa Group, with experience building businesses across multiple sectors.

Nakintu Pamela Mwanje,

Britam said Mwanje is a strategic communications, branding and marketing professional currently serving as Brand Manager at Next Media in Kampala, Uganda.

Ruth Tengecha

Ruth is a hospitality and tourism professional and co-founder of The Richanna Collective Limited, a mental health organisation focused on awareness and support.

Marcel Awori

He is the Chief of Staff at Nairobi City Thunder, with experience in business growth, partnerships, operations and youth development.

She is a sustainability and stakeholder engagement specialist with expertise in sustainable finance, programme development and digital inclusion.
