EACC Arrests Former Auditor General Director

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested former Deputy Director Audit at the Office of the Auditor General, Hannah Wambui Mwaura alias Anna Wambui Mwaura, over allegations of using a forged academic certificate to secure employment.

In a statement issued by EACC on August 7, the commission said Mwaura is expected to take plea this morning at 9am before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court after investigations into the matter were concluded.

The case involves allegations that Mwaura used a forged academic qualification during the recruitment process for the position of Assistant Manager – Audit at the Office of the Auditor General.

“Investigations established that she submitted a forged Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option), Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree certificate purportedly issued by Mount Kenya University to secure employment as Assistant Manager – Audit at the Office of the Auditor General,” EACC stated.

EACC Says Hannah Wambui Presented Certificate Before Graduation

The commission further stated that investigations established that at the time Hannah Wambui presented the certificate, she was still a student at the university and had not graduated.

EACC said it completed investigations into the matter and forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review and approval of charges.

“Upon conclusion of investigations, the Commission forwarded the investigation file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved charges of Forgery, Uttering a False Document, Deceiving a Principal, and Fraudulent Acquisition of Public Property against the suspect,” the statement read.

Hannnah to Face Four Charges in Court

The DPP approved charges of forgery, uttering a false document, deceiving a principal, and fraudulent acquisition of public property against the suspect following the completion of investigations.

Mwaura will appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where the charges will be formally presented as the case enters the judicial process.

The court will determine the next steps after the suspect responds to the allegations.
