Police Officers Arrested Over Alleged Ksh 100,000 Bribe Demand

EACC arrests two police officers over an alleged Ksh100,000 bribe demand in Bombolulu after they allegedly received Ksh50,000 from a complainant.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two police officers attached to the Kenya Power Coast Regional Office over allegations of demanding a Ksh 100,000 bribe from a complainant.

The officers, identified as Inspector Benjamin Ochieng and Corporal Said Bakari, allegedly demanded the money after accusing the complainant of illegally connecting electricity at his residence in Bombolulu.

According to the EACC, the officers allegedly wanted the money in exchange for dropping further investigations and avoiding legal action against the complainant.

Following the report, the Commission launched investigations to verify the bribery allegations and establish how the officers allegedly made the demand.

EACC Sets Up Operation To Catch Officers

As the investigations progressed, the Commission organised an operation on August 24, 2026. The two officers allegedly escorted the complainant to a bank along Moi Avenue to collect the money.

“On 24 August 2026, the Commission mounted an operation during which the two police officers allegedly escorted the complainant to a bank along Moi Avenue to collect the bribe money. The officers were subsequently arrested opposite DTB Bank after receiving Kes50,000 bribe from the complainant,” the Commission stated.

EACC arrested the officers opposite DTB Bank after they allegedly received Ksh 50,000 from the complainant. The amount represented part of the Ksh 100,000 they allegedly demanded.

After the arrest, authorities booked Ochieng and Bakari at Central Police Station for processing. They later released the two officers on Ksh 30,000 cash bail as the Commission continued its investigations.

Commission Reaffirms Commitment To Fighting Corruption

The EACC has also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting integrity among public officers and holding those accused of corruption accountable.

“EACC reiterates its commitment to combating bribery and corruption and ensuring that public officers uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties,” it stated.
