City Lawyer Arrested Over Alleged Ksh 49.4 Million Land Deal Scam

A Nairobi-based lawyer has been arrested after detectives accused him of stealing Ksh49.4 million that had been entrusted to him to facilitate the purchase of a parcel of land in Nairobi.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Ally Ahmed Ally, was arrested by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Office within Kilimani Sub-County.

The DCI said the advocate, who practises under the firm of Rasheed Rage and Nassir Advocates, is being investigated for the offence of stealing by agent, contrary to Section 283(b) of the Penal Code.

Investigators believe the lawyer received millions of shillings from a client to complete a land purchase but failed to use the money for its intended purpose.

 Lawyer Accused of Diverting Ksh49.4 Million

According to the DCI, the complainant entrusted the suspect with a total of Ksh49,400,500 on different dates between November 16, 2023, and January 3, 2024.

The money was meant to facilitate the purchase of a parcel of land in Nairobi.

However, detectives allege that instead of completing the transaction, the advocate diverted the funds and converted them to his own use.

The DCI stated,”Investigations established that the complainant entrusted the suspect with Ksh49,400,500 on diverse dates between 16th November 2023 and 3rd January 2024 to facilitate the purchase of the land.”

The agency further alleged,”However, instead of applying the funds for the intended transaction, the suspect allegedly diverted the money and unlawfully converted it to his own use.”

Suspect Awaiting Court Appearance

The DCI confirmed that the suspect is currently in lawful custody as detectives complete the necessary processing before presenting him in court.

“Ahmed is currently in lawful custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” the agency said.

Similar Case Reported in July

The arrest comes just weeks after another Nairobi-based advocate was apprehended over alleged involvement in a land fraud case.

On July 21, 2026, detectives from the DCI Headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit arrested lawyer Abdulahi Musdaf Hussein over claims that he attempted to fraudulently claim ownership of a parcel of land belonging to another person.

According to the DCI, the complainant had purchased the property in 2025 and was in possession of it when she received court documents indicating that Hussein was claiming ownership of the same parcel.

The case remains before the courts, with authorities continuing investigations into the alleged land fraud.
