Education CS Julius Ogamba has issued an update regarding teachers injured in a road accident along Murang’a Road involving a matatu.
The teachers had earlier participated in the KUPPET Nairobi Branch elections at City Primary School on the evening of Saturday, January 31, 2026.
In a statement, Ogamba said he visited the victims alongside TSC Chairperson Dr. Jamleck Muturi, Acting CEO of TSC Evaleen Mitei, and KUPPET SG Akello Misori
“Together with TSC Chairperson Dr. Jamleck Muturi, Acting CEO of TSC Ms. Evaleen Mitei, and KUPPET SG Mr. Akello Misori, we have today visited the victims of yesterday’s tragic accident, in which a public service vehicle rammed into teachers participating in union elections at City Primary School, Ngara, Nairobi,” Ogamba said.
CS Ogamba said the injured are receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi West Hospital, and Aga Khan Hospital, while the accident claimed two lives and left 26 others injured.
He wished the injured a speedy recovery and extended heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their loved ones.

Earlier, Basic Education PS Julius Bitok conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family of the teacher who had sadly lost their life in the incident.
“We share in your pain and stand with you during this moment of profound loss. We extend our thoughts and prayers to teachers and other individuals who sustained injuries. We wish them a speedy recovery. We offer a hand of solidarity to the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), the teaching fraternity, and the education community at large during this difficult time,” Bitok said.

He stated that the Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely as they gather detailed information surrounding the circumstances of the incident in collaboration with the relevant authorities.
