DCI Breaks Silence on Claims that Indian Doctor Was Paid Ksh 300 Million to Poison Raila Odinga

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed viral social media claims alleging that a doctor had been paid to poison former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a statement dated June 12, DCI said the post claiming that Raila was poisoned using botulinum toxin by an Indian doctor who was allegedly paid to carry out are fake and misleading to the public.
According to the viral reports, the doctor was said to have disclosed that the substance allegedly involved was botulinum toxin, described as a highly dangerous neurotoxin that can block nerve signals to muscles, leading to paralysis.
DCI Dismisses Claims of Raila’s Posioning
The fake post claimed that the Indian doctor had confessed to being paid Ksh300 million to poison the late former Prime Minister while he was on treatment in the Asian nation.

However, DCI argued that the information circulating online is not credible and should be disregarded by the public.
The authorities further warned against the spread of unverified content on social media, especially claims involving high-profile individuals and serious allegations that could mislead the public.
This development comes 8 months later after the death of Raila, who was undergoing treatment in India after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk on Wednesday, October 15,2025.
He was rushed to hospital to Koothattukulam in Kerala’s Ernakulam district for Ayurvedic treatment but doctors were unable to revive him using resuscitation measures, and he was pronounced dead at around 9:52am (Indian time).
While cardiac arrest was reported as the immediate cause of his death, further verified reports indicated that Odinga also had other underlying contributing factors to his untimely death.
Ruto Confirms Death of Former Prime Minister
The 80-year-old had arrived in India six days ago for treatment, attracting nationwide attention as conflicting reports on his health began circulating.

However, weeks before his trip to India, Raila had suffered a stroke and was also managing other long-term chronic illnesses, including diabetes and hypertension.
Elsewhere , Raila Odinga’s elder brother, Oburu Odinga, revealed that President William Ruto was fully aware of Raila’s illness and personally facilitated his travel to India for treatment.
Speaking during the funeral service of the veteran opposition leader at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University grounds in Siaya County, Oburu said the President’s support to the family began long before Raila’s passing.
