DCI Names Ex-Wife, Son as Key Organisers in Dr Victoria Mutiso’s Murder

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has named the ex-wife of Dr Victoria Mutiso’s husband and her son as the alleged primary organisers and financiers of the conspiracy that led to the doctor’s murder.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, August 7, 2026, DCI Director Mohamed Amin said investigators had identified Dr Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son, Christopher Mulwa, as key suspects in the case.

According to Amin, investigations established that the two played a central role in planning, directing and financing the operation that led to Dr Mutiso’s fatal shooting.

The DCI said the suspected motive was linked to a long-running land dispute involving a civil case filed by Dr Rose Mbithe Mulwa.

Investigators said Dr Mutiso had placed a caveat on land parcel LR No. 1504/13 in Mlolongo, Machakos County, which was viewed as a threat to the interests of parties involved in the ownership and control of the property.

“Investigators have further established that Dr Rose Mbithe Mulwa and her son Christopher Mulwa were the primary organisers and financiers of the conspiracy,” Amin said.

Two Police Officers Linked to Murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso

Amin also revealed that two Kenya Police Service officers allegedly played key roles in the murder.

Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi, the officer in charge of Nderi Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station, was identified as the alleged link between the financiers and the operational team, as well as the suspected source of the murder weapon.

The DCI Boss stated that the officer is currently on the run.

Police Constable Elijah Kibelion Kimoi, attached to Karinde Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station, has been arrested.

Amin said forensic evidence placed Kimoi at the scene and identified him as the officer who allegedly pulled the trigger.

The DCI described the alleged involvement of the officers as a “grave betrayal” of the police uniform and public trust.

DCI Identifies Murder Weapon

Amin said investigators recovered a Mini Jericho pistol from the armoury at Nderi Police Post, together with a magazine containing 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

An examination of the arms movement register showed that the firearm had earlier been issued to Inspector Kipkemboi.

The pistol was subjected to ballistic examination at the National Police Service Forensic Laboratory.

According to the DCI, the examination confirmed that it was the weapon used to kill Dr Mutiso.

Two spent cartridges recovered from the scene and a bullet head recovered during the post-mortem matched test-fired specimens from the firearm.

Two More Suspects Arrested

Investigations also led detectives to Daniel Mwangi Njoroge and Kelvin Ngugi Kinuthia.

The DCI identified Njoroge as a central organiser and the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, registration KDH 600A, which was allegedly used to block the Uber vehicle carrying Dr Mutiso shortly before the shooting.

The agency said two Prado vehicles used in the operation were identified as KDE 400W and KDH 600A. Both were hired by Njoroge on July 29 and returned the following day. A tracking device placed on one of the vehicles was at the scene.

Kinuthia was identified as the motorcycle rider who allegedly transported the shooter to the scene. He was arrested on Thursday night, and his motorcycle, registration KMGZ 780D, was recovered.

Earlier Attack and Possible Link to Mbobu Shooting

The DCI further revealed that Dr Mutiso had survived an attempted shooting on July 7, 2026, along Ngong Road near Junction Mall.

Two men on a motorcycle allegedly pointed a gun at her, but she escaped and reported the incident at Kilimani Police Station.

The agency is also investigating possible links between some of the suspects and the September 9, 2025, shooting of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu along Mbagathi Road.

Amin said investigations remain ongoing and that detectives are pursuing everyone involved, including those who allegedly financed, organised, supplied the weapon, provided surveillance or facilitated the murder.
