Division Rocks Linda Mwananchi as Babu Owino Publicly Calls Out Key Figure

Babu Owino publicly called out a key figure in the Linda Mwananchi group during the movement’s Nairobi rally at Jacaranda Grounds on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
The Embakasi East MP and one of the core leaders of Linda Mwananchi appeared to address Abbie Zuena during the rally, urging her to maintain good conduct.
“Nimekuona Abbie, lakini kuwa mtu mzuri wewe, hatutaki vitina hapa,” Babu said.
The remarks came as members and supporters of Linda Mwananchi gathered at Jacaranda Grounds for the Nairobi rally.
Abbie Zuena, also known as Abigael Gikonyo, is a prominent supporter and public voice within the Linda Mwananchi movement. She has also been actively involved in the movement’s rallies and mobilisation activities.
Abbie’s Message on Sifuna
On the same day, Abbie Zuena also took to social media to confirm her support for ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions.
“As it has been well said by @CaroliOmondi here Linda Mwananchi’s only presidential candidate is none other than H.E Edwin Watenya Sifuna!” she wrote on Sunday, September 13.
Abbie added that her position was not intended to cause division within the movement.
“I swear guys, hii si Fitina ni ukweli!” she added.
Reactions to the Remarks Made by Babu Owino
Babu Owino’s remarks directed at Abbie Zuena sparked mixed reactions online, with some Linda Mwananchi supporters criticizing the Embakasi East MP while others defended him and questioned the backlash.
Adrian Oluoch described Babu’s remarks as distasteful, saying young Generation Z voices within Linda Mwananchi were unhappy with the statement.
“This was distasteful from Babu Owino! Among the voices of young Gen Zs in Linda Mwananchi, we are utterly disgusted by such kind of statements!” Oluoch said.
Muthoni also criticized Babu, arguing that publicly calling out Abbie could expose her to security risks.
“This is very unfortunate from a leader the caliber of Babu Owino,” Muthoni said.
She noted that Abbie had previously faced a dangerous situation in Homa Bay and urged Babu to address any concerns with her privately rather than speaking about her on a public platform.
Muthoni also claimed that Abbie had remained supportive of Babu and said she had even worn a Babu Owino merchandise item on the day of the rally.

Calls for Calm Within Linda Mwananchi
JaHomabay urged Babu to work on his anger and word choice, saying he should remain composed as a leader.
“These are some of the things I want my friend and diehard Babu Owino to work on. I don’t like him getting these anger issues. He needs to be more composed and guard his language,” JaHomabay said.
He added that Nairobi County needed Babu in a leadership role and criticized his continued use of language associated with goon culture.
Meanwhile, Maverick Aoko called for unity within Linda Mwananchi and said she had previously tried to discourage infighting among members of the movement.
Aoko said she had spoken to Abbie Zuena and described her as an “eloquent girl,” while claiming that Babu was the person who brought her into Linda Mwananchi.
Aoko also acknowledged that she initially reacted after Abbie did not respond to her outreach, saying she later regretted it.
After speaking with Abbie, Aoko said the disagreement appeared to involve the political ambitions of Babu and another senior figure within the movement.
She suggested that both sides should be allowed to pursue their political ambitions while remaining within Linda Mwananchi.

Calls for Consistency
Not everyone agreed with the criticism of Babu. Reagan questioned why similar energy was not shown when Babu was allegedly humiliated in Bungoma.
“Where was this energy when Babu Owino was humiliated in Bungoma? You didn’t call it out. Why?”He asked.
He accused critics of applying double standards in their reaction to the incident involving Abbie.
