Ruto Fires Back at Sifuna Over Promise to Give Police Affordable Houses

President William Ruto claps back at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna after he said that when he becomes president in 2027, he will give affordable houses to the police.

Speaking in Kisumu County during his development tour, President Ruto said that he already has a plan for the police, including twenty thousand houses, and Sifuna should stop speaking about his projects.

“Naskia mnasema ati mtagawanya haya manyumba kwa polisi, wacha niwapashe habari, polisi tumewapangia nyumba elfu ishirini tayari,” Ruto said.

President Ruto’s response comes after Edwin Sifuna said on September 13, 2026, during his rally in Nairobi that he will give the police affordable houses after he is elected president in 2027.

Sifuna’s Promise

“I want to promise police officers that after Linda Mwananchi takes power, we will give them the affordable houses they live in,” said Sifuna.

In addition, President Ruto says that the Linda Mwananchi Movement should not speak about affordable housing because they lack a plan and an agenda.

“Tuko mbele sana nyinyi hamuelewi chochote my friends. Endeni mdiscuss other things; you have no capacity, you have no way to discuss housing. You have no plan, no agenda and no program,” Ruto said.

These remarks were made during President Ruto’s first day of a multi-day development tour of the Luo Nyanza region, where he attended a church service, inspected government projects and addressed residents on his administration’s development agenda.

Affordable Housing

Affordable housing continues to be a debate among the government and the opposition, with President Ruto maintaining that the programme is aimed at increasing access to decent housing while at the same time creating employment.

Sifuna’s promise to police officers formed part of his message at the Linda Mwananchi rally in Nairobi, where opposition leaders outlined their vision for government ahead of the 2027 General Election.

His remarks drew a swift response from President Ruto, who insisted that his administration already has a housing plan for officers and challenged the opposition to focus on other issues instead of claiming ownership of projects already being implemented.
