Drama as PLO Lumumba Walks Off Stage After Presentation Interrupted by Nyong’o’s Arrival

Drama unfolded at a conference after a renowned scholar and lawyer, Patrick Loch Otieno, alias PLO Lumumba, walked off the stage after his presentation was interrupted to pave the way for the arrival of Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o.

According to reports, Lumumba was asked to pause his presentation as the governor arrived at the event, prompting him to question why his remarks had to be stopped.

The scholar, who had been speaking about HIV and AIDS research and Africa’s access to research materials, expressed his frustration before announcing that he would stop his presentation.

“I’m researching the equation of HIV and AIDS, so, in reality, what we’re saying is that Africa can’t access research and research materials, largely because this is part of the African problem. I’m being stopped now because the governor came,” Lumumba said.

In his remarks, Lumumba questioned whether the arrival of the governor should take precedence over the discussion taking place at the conference.

He argued that Africa continues to face challenges in accessing research and research materials and said such interruptions were part of the issues that could hold the continent back.

Lumumba further stated that the governor was aware that the meeting was taking place and questioned why his arrival had resulted in the interruption of the presentation.

After expressing his concerns, the scholar announced that he would stop his presentation and subsequently walked off the stage, leaving members of the audience watching the incident in surprise.

“What’s important, what we’re saying or that the governor came? I’ll stop, but it’s this kind of thing that holds Africa back. The governor knew we were having a meeting; he chose to come and interrupt us, and we’re here to celebrate. I’m going to stop,” said Lumumba.

Kenyans React to PLO Lumumba’s Walkout

The incident has since sparked reactions from members of the public, with some Kenyans supporting Lumumba’s decision to walk away from the presentation.

Herman Kamariki, a social media user, defended the scholar, arguing that politicians should not be treated as though their arrival automatically takes precedence over scheduled programmes.

“Professor Lumumba is very right. It is now time we stop treating these politicians as gods.”

Kamariki further argued that programmes at public events are often interrupted when politicians arrive, saying Lumumba’s speech should not have been stopped simply because a politician had arrived.

“Professor Lumumba has been blessed with very educative speeches which should not be stopped just because a politician has been noticed. I totally support him.”

Other reactions focused on the importance of punctuality and sticking to programmes during conferences and other public events.

Byron Menezes argued that events should follow their scheduled programmes regardless of the arrival of prominent guests.

Menezes also questioned the tendency to give special treatment to prominent individuals, arguing that events should proceed according to schedule despite delays or interruptions.

“We worship humans too much. Events should proceed as per the schedule irrespective of such interruptions and delays.”
