A fire has broken out at Mombasa Maize Millers in Majengo, Mombasa, on Monday, August 10.

Videos from the scene show thick smoke billowing from the premises as people scramble to respond to the incident.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain unclear as of publication.

Recent Fire Incidents in Nairobi

The Mombasa fire comes amid several fire emergencies reported in Nairobi in recent days.

On August 3, a fire broke out at Lotus House near Afya Centre in Nairobi’s Central Business District, causing panic as emergency teams rushed to the scene.

Preliminary reports indicated that several people were trapped inside the building as firefighters worked to contain the blaze. The fire reportedly started on the first floor before spreading quickly.

People at the scene initially used fire extinguishers to fight the flames, but the intensity of the fire overwhelmed their efforts.

The incident also disrupted traffic along Tom Mboya Street as large crowds gathered to watch the rescue operation.

On August 7, another fire was reported at the Ali Glaziers building along Third Street in Eastleigh North.

A day later, on August 8, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s office in Upper Hill caught fire, prompting a response from Nairobi City County emergency teams.

Flames and thick smoke rose from a section of the property, while sparks were visible around the affected area. The scenes led to speculation that an electrical fault may have caused the fire, although this was not immediately confirmed.

Footage shared by Mike Sonko on his social media platforms captured the tense moments as occupants reacted to the emergency.
