Five Feared Dead After Two Trailers Collide on Marsabit–Isiolo Road

Five people have died and another has sustained serious injuries after two trailers collided at Kargi Junction on the Marsabit–Isiolo Road in the early hours of Friday, July 31.

The accident happened at about 4 a.m., approximately 10 kilometres from Marsabit Town.

According to the Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo, both trailers were transporting beans and were headed towards Isiolo when one vehicle crashed into the back of the other, resulting in the fatal accident.

Following the crash, four people died on the spot, while a fifth later succumbed to injuries after doctors rushed them to the Marsabit County Referral and Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, medics are treating the injured victim at the same facility.

Police Respond and Launch Investigations Following Kargi Junction Accident

Shortly after the accident, police officers led by the Marsabit Central Sub-County Police Commander arrived at the scene, secured the area and launched investigations into the cause of the crash.

They later moved the bodies of the deceased to the Marsabit County Referral and Teaching Hospital mortuary.

Crash Adds to Rising Road Accidents

The Kargi Junction accident adds to a series of fatal crashes reported across the country in recent days.

A day earlier, six people, including three students, died in a road accident at Lessos Junction in the Mlima Punda area after a private van, a trailer and a Blue Max Sacco matatu collided along the Kakamega–Nairobi route.

Emergency responders rushed the injured to Burnt Forest and Plateau hospitals for treatment.

Uasin Gishu County Traffic Enforcement Officer Cornelius Chesimet said authorities will release more details once they identify all the victims.

West Pokot School Bus Crash

In another incident, at least 13 people sustained injuries after two school buses carrying 101 pupils collided in the Riting area of West Pokot County on Tuesday, July 28.

Kenya Red Cross teams responded swiftly and evacuated the injured to Kapenguria Referral Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) continues to urge motorists to follow traffic rules and remain cautious on major highways as it steps up efforts to reduce road accidents nationwide.
