Four People Feared Dead and Several Injured in Accident While Heading to Burial

Four people have died while several others sustained injuries after a Toyota Sienta carrying seven passengers was involved in a road accident in Meru County.
The accident took place on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Kaura Mijie, as the vehicle was travelling from Nairobi to Maua.
The passengers were reportedly travelling to Maua to attend a burial when the accident took place.
The driver reportedly lost control while descending the slope, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and plunge into a ditch.
Police Confirmation
Police have confirmed the incident, with Meru County Police Commander Zacheous Ngeno confirmed that four people had died in the crash.
The force of the impact was significant, with the vehicle’s engine, wheels and other components ripped off and scattered at the scene.The Kaura Mijii stretch has recently recorded several accidents, sparking renewed concerns over the safety of motorists and passengers using the busy highway.

The exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed.
Images shared from the scene showed the Toyota Sienta extensively damaged, with its roof and side panels badly crushed.
Road Safety Concerns
Members of the public were also seen gathered around the wrecked vehicle as efforts to assist those involved in the crash continued to take place.
This accident comes amid concerns over road safety in Kenya where road accidents have increasingly become a problem where many people lose their lives while others get injured.
