George Ruto Commissions New 98 Sacco Matatus for Nairobi Routes

President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, has unveiled a new fleet of matatus under his 98 Sacco after the vehicles underwent extensive modifications at a garage.

The new fleet was presented after the buses were customized at a garage, where they received interior and exterior upgrades before being commissioned for service.

Images and videos shared online showed the vehicles featuring bold artwork, customized lighting, entertainment systems, and distinctive paintwork, elements commonly associated with Nairobi’s matatu culture.

The launch marks the latest expansion of the 98 Sacco, which has become associated with heavily modified public service vehicles designed to stand out in Nairobi’s competitive transport sector.

In Nairobi, matatu owners often invest significantly in customization, with many vehicles fitted with high-powered sound systems, LED lighting, graffiti artwork, and unique branding to attract passengers.

Such modifications have become a defining feature of Nairobi’s public transport culture, particularly on routes popular with youth commuters.

The unveiling of the new fleet has drawn attention online, with social media users discussing both the vehicles’ elaborate designs and George Ruto’s growing presence in the matatu business.

“We can only wish him all the best coz the dude is overworking. The enemies of progress will be here with their theories explaining where the money to buy nganyas came from,” Ogola said.

However, neither George Ruto nor 98 Sacco has publicly announced the exact routes the newly commissioned vehicles will serve or when they will officially begin carrying passengers.

George Ruto invited pastors to pray for his new matatus and dedicate them to God before they go on the roads to begin working and carrying passengers.

Public Service Vehicles

This launch comes at a time when Nairobi’s matatu industry continues to include creativity and commercial competition, with regulatory requirements needed for matatus on the roads.

All public service vehicles must comply with licensing and inspection standards set by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) before operating on public roads.

George Ruto owns investments in the transport sector through the 98 Sacco, whose branded vehicles have become increasingly visible within Nairobi’s public transport sector.
