“Go to Your Home Varsity!” University of Eldoret Cracks Down on Lecturer After Viral Clip

The University of Eldoret has condemned remarks attributed to one of its part-time lecturers during a lecture and announced disciplinary action against him.

In a statement issued by the Corporate Affairs and Marketing Department on Saturday, September 26, the university said the lecturer made the remarks while teaching SHUM 211: State and Society Development on September 24, 2026, at ED5.

“The University of Eldoret Management has taken note of, and strongly condemns, the unfortunate and unacceptable utterances reportedly made by one of its part-time lecturers,” the institution said.

University of Eldoret Distances Itself from Lecturer’s Remarks

The university made it clear that the comments attributed to the lecturer did not represent its official position.

“The University wishes to state unequivocally that the utterances attributed to the said lecturer do not represent, reflect, or in any way constitute the position, policy, or official views of the University of Eldoret,” the statement read.

The institution said all members of staff, including part-time lecturers, must uphold professionalism, academic integrity, respect, inclusivity and responsible conduct while carrying out their duties.

Disciplinary Action Initiated

The University of Eldoret said it had already instituted disciplinary action in accordance with its internal policies, regulations and principles of due process.

“Accordingly, the University has instituted immediate and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the applicable University policies, regulations, and principles of due process,” the university stated.

It added that it would take necessary measures where the conduct of any staff member was found to be inconsistent with its standards.

The university also maintained its commitment to protecting the dignity, rights, safety and welfare of its students and staff, saying it serves a diverse student population from Kenya and other parts of the world.

Lecturer’s Comments on Ruto’s Re-election

The university’s statement came after a video recorded by a student inside a lecture hall circulated online.

In the undated clip, the part-time lecturer is heard discussing President William Ruto’s political future and appearing to campaign for his re-election in the 2027 General Election.

“Take from by September when you’re in third year, the President will be who, Daktari, isn’t it? So prepare yourselves. Kama mnataka kuenda kukata miti, enda kata miti Mount Kenya, sio Sugoi this time. We are ruling for two terms…” the lecturer said, according to the video reported by Citizen Digital.

He then dismissed suggestions that Ruto would serve only one term, comparing his administration with that of former President Daniel Moi, who ruled Kenya for 24 years.

“So usidanganywe, Ruto ni one term. Your MCA is one term, your MP is one term, your Senator is one term. But mark the day this man will go for…” he said.

The Students Then Responded, “One Term…”

The lecturer subsequently told students who did not support Ruto’s continued presidency not to return to the university if he lost the 2027 election.

“Akienda one term usikuje hii University. Get a university at your home. Kama uko Western enda Masinde Muliro, kama uko Mount Kenya enda Meru, Dedan Kimathi. Don’t stay in this… Wacha tusome na watoto wetu kwa University yetu,” he said.

He also questioned why students were rejecting what he described as their “son” and claimed that Ruto had performed better than previous presidents, according to the footage and reports on the incident.
