Govt Announces Fresh Board, Council and County Appointments Nationwide

The following are some of the recent appointments, re-appointments and revocations of appointments of public institutions and committees made by the national government and county governments through Gazette Notices issued in July 2026.

These appointments, which have been made by different Cabinet Secretaries and governors pursuant to various statutes, are meant to improve the management, oversight, and service delivery in sectors such as gender issues, education, environment, cooperative development, health, county management, and urban management.

All these appointments take effect as of July 10, 2026, while other appointments take effect on the dates indicated in the relevant Gazette Notices.

National Government Affirmative Action Fund Board appointments

Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Children Services Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, exercising powers under paragraph 8(3)(e) of the Public Finance Management (National Government Affirmative Action Fund) Regulations, appointed Gerald Kimathi Ithibua and Jane Jepkorir Barus as members of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) Board.

The two will serve a three-year term beginning July 10, 2026.

The appointments were made under the Public Finance Management Act and the Public Finance Management (National Government Affirmative Action Fund) Regulations, 2016.

Technical University of Mombasa Council Reappointments

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba, acting under Section 36(1)(d) of the Universities Act, re-appointed Mohamed Loo, Grace Nekoye Katasi, Paul Mwasaru Mwazumbo and Asma Hadi Awadh as members of the Council of the Technical University of Mombasa.

The four council members will serve another three-year term effective July 10, 2026, ensuring continuity in the university’s governance and management.

NEMA Board Receives New Member

Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Deborah Mlongo Barasa appointed Sheila Chepkorir Kosgei as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA).

The appointment was made under Section 10(1)(e) of the National Environment Management and Co-ordination Act and takes effect from July 10, 2026, for a period of three years.

Coffee Exchange Transition Committee Changes

Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya amended Gazette Notice No. 1954 of January 27, 2025 concerning the Working Committee overseeing the transition of the Nairobi Coffee Exchange into the Coffee Exchange established under the Capital Markets (Coffee Exchange) Regulations and the Crops (Coffee) (General) Regulations.

The changes revoke the appointments of Jackie Muia and Roselyne Chepkirui.

The Cabinet Secretary simultaneously appointed Michael Nyaga, Esther Njeri, Alfred Matiangi and Geoffrey Mureithi as members of the Working Committee.

Notice further states that all other provisions of Gazette Notice No. 1954 of January 27, 2025 remain in force except for the amendments introduced through the latest notice.

Nairobi Liquor Committee Appointments

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja appointed Declerk Shivanji Kiarie and Mary Wairimu Kimani as members of the Dagoretti South Sub-county Liquor Committee.

The appointments were made under Section 6(3)(d) of the Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Act, 2014, for a three-year term beginning July 10, 2026.

The Governor also revoked the appointments of Ambros Mwelesa and Caroline Njeri from the committee.

Nandi Facilities Improvement Fund Board constituted

Nandi Governor Stephen K. Sang appointed members of the Nandi County Facilities Improvement Fund Board under Section 13 of the Nandi County Facilities Improvement Fund Act, 2022.

The board will be chaired by Abdi Hussein, while the County Director of Health will serve as Secretary.

Other appointed members are Patrick Chemigin, Agnes Korir, Daniel Chepsiror and Daisy Kiyeng.

Additional members include the County Executive Committee Member for Health and Sanitation, the Chief Officer for Health and Sanitation, the Chief Officer for Finance and Economic Planning, the Director of Health Administration, Finance and Planning, while the Fund Administrator will serve as an ex officio member.

The appointments were dated July 6, 2026.

Meru appoints new County Executive Committee Member

Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia appointed Stephen Nturibi Etirikia as the County Executive Committee Member responsible for Legal Affairs, Public Service Management and Administration.

The appointment was made under Section 35 of the County Governments Act and was dated June 10, 2026.

Narok Public Service Board Appointed

Narok Governor Patrick Keturet ole Ntutu, following approval by the County Assembly, appointed a new Narok County Public Service Board under the County Governments Act and the Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act.

John Sayiaton Kitita was appointed Chairperson, while Jane Sila Sankok, Kimiti Ruth Lanoi, Emily Chepkemoi Tudongo, Kutinkala Meingati Wilson and Daniel Kiprono Keter were appointed as members.

The appointments are for a six-year term effective July 8, 2026.

Lodwar Municipality Board Member Appointed

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Ekamais Lomorukai Napotikan, following approval by the County Assembly on May 6, 2026, appointed Priscilla Ewoi Ateyo as a member of the Lodwar Municipality Board.

The appointment was made under Article 184 of the Constitution of Kenya, the County Governments Act and the Urban Areas and Cities Act.

The Gazette Notice is dated May 20, 2026.
