Govt Breaks Silence on Harambee Stars Boycott Over Unpaid Allowances

The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports has said it has honoured its financial obligations for Harambee Stars’ previous assignments despite Harambee Starts claiming its not enough.

According to the Ministry in a statement dated 24 September 2026 , any remaining payments are currently undergoing administrative processing in consultation with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

“The Ministry has taken note of concerns raised regarding the welfare and allowances of Harambee Stars players currently preparing for the upcoming AFCON 2027 Qualifier against Eritrea,” said the statement.

It has responded to concerns raised over the welfare and allowances of Harambee Stars players as they prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Eritrea.

Welfare Of Players

Additionally, the Ministry said the welfare of players and technical teams remains essential to effective preparation, performance and representing Kenya at the international level.

According to the Ministry, the government has consistently supported Harambee Stars and other national teams by facilitating preparations, travel, accommodation, allowances and technical support during international engagements.

It said concerns relating to player welfare should be addressed promptly while remaining within the established administrative and accountability frameworks governing the use of public resources.

The Ministry further clarified that payments for previous assignments have already been settled.

Allowances For The Team

These include allowances for Harambee Stars engagements in Zambia, South Africa and Turkey, as well as the Under-20 CECAFA assignment in Tanzania.

It also stated that outstanding salaries for the Harambee Stars technical bench have been paid through FKF and directly to members of the national team.

The government urged all parties to continue engaging through the appropriate channels, saying administrative matters should not disrupt the team’s preparations at a crucial stage.

The statement comes amid increased focus on player welfare ahead of Kenya’s AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign, with the government reiterating its commitment to supporting Harambee Stars.
